Again, offer of help with textures:
An IL-2 modder made the best textures ever made for a green theatre in IL-2 for a north Norway map.
I could send him a pm should this be of interest and ask for permission to share his tex. They are almost 100/100 realistic compared to some reallife shots I saw of Fjordic areas.
Theatre was Murmansk, Barents sea and north Norway. -
This Theater would be an ice(pun intended) addition to the WIP’s in BMS.
But, as Toonce’s stated, it is only a working template to develop from.
I did some work on it to try to minimize the terrain “crunching” to the North due to the RL Lat\Long.
Maybe,as someone stated,a flat projection may be best for Falcon.
And,as Luk stated, “bending” the wireframe in L2 will not get us the desired elevation effect needed.I think though, that if you guy’s got together, you may be able to build on it!!!
Good Luck and have fun!!!

I apologize for necro-bumping this thread, as I know a bunch of you are going to click on it excitedly hoping that suddenly there’s a working Nordic theater in here somewhere. That isn’t the case!
This is mostly for Polak, although if anyone else has answers/ideas I’m certainly open to them.
I don’t know anything about terrain editing. However, I browsed through this theater for a while using Monster’s outstanding terrain tools and I have a question/idea. One of the biggest problems with the tiling of this theater in it’s current state is that it only uses a subset of the available tiles, and the way they are configured looks terrible. To that end:
1. Would there be any merit is altering the Nevada (or Israel for that matter) tiles from there current brown color to a white/winter color? I’m not talking about creating new tiles as much as just changing the colors from desert brown to snow white…
2. Having done that, then how much work is it to import those tiles into Nordic and have it re-tile with the new winter Nevada/Israel tileset? I couldn’t quite figure that part out.
I’m just sort of thinking out loud here, but I’m intrigued by the idea unless and until someone can tell me it’s not worth the effort.

If I’m reading Monster’s documentation correctly, it sounds like one could use the ModTerrain tool to re-tile a theater by directing it to the raw terrain files and having it rebuild the terrain…if I’m reading it correctly. I’m not sure I quite get it, but I’m brand new at this…

Be great if this does get to completion. Very interesting zone to fly in.

I can confirm, that it is possible to color correct an existing desert texture (using Photoshop), into an arctic one:
This example was done easily with only hue/saturation and color balance options. It wouldn’t take much time if one add a template of effects in “Actions” option in Photoshop and this way many tiles can be edited in short period of time.

We need Ted.
“TED, WHERE ARE YOU???!!!11!”
“Polak, to the white courtesy phone, please.”
Etc.
-
That looks great, Airbuster, and confirms what I’ve suspected for a while.
If we don’t hear from Ted soon I might just see if I can figure out how to do this myself.

Sorry guys, I have missed this topic altogether. Will get you something to reply tomorrow. I was busy with several things not to mention sending LasVegas to Dave , which I did.

You need to add Russia East data to the model. That was the major original obstacle, but was solved by Zaggy. The Russia East data was in Lambert projection, so it had to be converted. There are links on this forum to the converted data set somewhere….

Penguins are very hard to find in the Polar areas north of Norway…. Icebears are a bit easier…
-
No problem, Ted.
I have to think, though, knowing nothing about this stuff, that you could convert your desert tiles to snow pretty easily. Easy being a relative term. I guess I should say that I’m sure you would know how to do it. How time consuming it would be I have no idea.
There might be some value in experimenting with your Nevada theater, just to see what it looks like.

We have to remember that Falcon is FLAT Long\Lat and based on Korea Penis ……that is the way it is.
Zaggys and Blueprints worx were based on SRTM that I do not see in BMS 4.32…sighdemer

If it can’t be made to work with the stuff I posted up, then I got nothin’. If we gotta “start from scratch” there are more interesting places to do that from. I love Norway, but it’s not my first choice for theater development.

Personally I would like to see an Alaska theater
