Nevada consolidation thread
-
i have a ongoing UI map draft and ONC ready. it’s based on the old PMC one, so i’ll probably need to update it at some point
-
I’ll do a modern, current DB Red Flag large TE set and a remake of my Red Flag 00-01 set. I’m not asking to be on the team necessarily, I can do that when the first release hits. My theater modding experience is now almost a decade outdated.
Do you guys have anybody that has specifically researched the ranges and what objects should be where? The fun thing is with the KOTAR objects in the DB, it should be more realistic to do. I have a late 90s book that I was using for range object placement in the first Nevada theater. I’m sure some of it has changed but with the internet and Google earth, it should be easier to get up to speed this time.

I got new UI screens done almost just doing finishing touches

WP (Whitepony),
First- everything below is predicated on you agreeing…it’s not my intention to interject myself into something that you’ve been already doing.
After talking with Dave yesterday, what I recommend is that from this point forward all Nevada development uses your project as its base. From what I understand it is a 64 segment theater created from scratch, similar to the previous Nevada but centered a bit more on Nellis. Dave said he sent that to you and you’ve been working on that template. All further development will focus on this version of Nevada.
I’m not clear on the status of the terrain. I understand that it still requires tiling work. How is the underlying map? Meaning- are objects and features placed, airfields leveled? Links created?
The way forward will depend on your answers. There is always some risk in posting up an unfinished product. However, I think there is value in providing your current version to a small development team so we can work concurrently on it.
If the basic structure of the terrain is done, there may be value in letting Ted (Polak) look at it and see if he can integrate some of his previous tiling work into it. Perhaps the two of you can break the map into pieces and each be responsible for tiling a respective part of it? Something to consider.
I’d like to get Red Dog and Snake122 to take a look to see if there is work they can do as well. Also Nestraitou (sp) can start working on IAP if the runways are placed. And of course I’d like to see what kind of .cam work might be possible.
If the terrain need significant objective/link work, there are experts here like A.S that can provide some input and save us some time.
What I’d prefer to avoid is to postpone development work until the terrain is “painted” with all of the tiles. While that is important, there is a lot of work that can be completed while the lengthy process of tiling is completed.
Think about it and let me know if you’re interested in enlisting some community involvement.

Once again … my advice: No specific DB. Use BMS stock DB and wait for the next version before considering a specific DB.
Terrain (theater) first and above all.

… do not spend too much efforts and time on UI neither … keep it simple (maybe just a main page and that’s it) for the moment.

O.k. Mike, when you are ready from airports (i mean to be all placed and have their final type of runways), pass me the theater to start working the airport diagrams and the IAP charts. Of course i will start from Nellis AFB (KLSV) and then from the most important for the exercises airbases. We will talking about this, you and Dave can give me suggestions after you have idea about the T.E. missions.
By the way, i can do runway leveling and fix the explosions over runway. If you don’t have any other guy, tell me this also.
I’m glad with the fact that first time i see so much good developers to work on the same theater! This is AWESOME!
Let’s give to our Falcon community a masterpiece :p.
It will be nice for me to work side to so much great guys and developers.

Plz keep it up, gents! The Falcon world is watching you! -
Guys the terrain is the key to this at this moment until it is done there is nothing I would recommend doing at the moment. You can not work on fifteen different things as everyone them has a piece and the theater gets to be a mess, trust me we have tried. Let’s focus on terrain first then we can move on to something else. We try to rush things and we end up with a bad product patience is a virtue my friends
