Format of TE's .tac file
-
is there any description of the binary format in the .tac file somewhere? i need to read out the steerpoints data into my program
also, i don’t think there is, but, is there a way to switch to the next steerpoint automatically when you get within a curtain distance of it?
is that file the right place to look? i’ve dug around with a binary editor and can’t seem to find altitudes or speeds from the steerpoints. maybe its compressed?
thx

The steerpoints are saved in the username data card (yourname.ini) located in User/Config. It is a plaint text file, very easy to read.
For the automatic change of steerpoint you can set it in you DED as described in the BMS-Dash1 manual page 62 (cap 1.3.7 STPT(steerpoint) page 4).Hope it helps

Yes there is. See the Dash-1 page 62, section 1.3.7. STPT (Steerpoint) page (4).
“The first line allows the pilots to toggle the active steerpoint with the NEXT/PREV ICP buttons (notice the up & down arrows) and the
MAN or AUTO steerpoint function, which can be toggled with DCS SEQ. MAN means that the new steerpoint has to be manually
selected. AUTO will increment to the next steerpoint automatically when the INS detects the proximity of the current waypoint. In
AUTO mode, an “A” symbol is displayed on the CNI page next to the steerpoint, as seen on the left picture.”Cheers,

in Viper.ini i see a lot of zero under [STPT] and no data. i start from a TE, should i transfer the TE steerpoints to a data cartridge or something for this to work?
ok, i think i have it, once i select the TE i go data cartridge then load then save and then i get the distances in feet for x,y,z for each steerpoint
it looks like to i have to load the data cartridge every time i start bms then. is there an automatic way for that?
thx

I think that you have to save your DC in order to transfer all info in the ini file. I can’t do a try right now, but I think so.
-
yes, it seems so
is there any way to load the SPs in the .ini back into the game, not use the ones in the TE?
-
Try the LOAD function of DC when in 2d (map) view; not the LOAD in the MFD (just to be clear)

that just loads the steerpoints from the TE i selected to get to that screen, or do i misunderstand your point?
i tried editing the targets in the .ini and loading as as you said, but i just get the steerpoints from from te
i found this in the bms manual
For Tactical Engagements
1. Build your TE as normal. Save the TE and then exit back to the main UI screen. Open the TE as if you were going to go fly it. Stop the clock. Build TGT STPTs/LINES/PPTs as described in the above paragraphs.
2. Upon completion, open the DTC and hit the Save button. This will write an .ini file that has the same name as the TE. So if you saved your TE as “4shipOCA”, the associated .ini file will be called “4shipOCA.ini”. Again, it resides in the \Falcon4\campaign\save directory.
3. Distribute this file to the pilots flying. They will copy/move the file into the same directory.
4. Upon entering the TE module, all pilots should see the TGT STPTs/LINES/PPTs.
5. Each pilot may manipulate the information in the UI (add threats, additional lines, or target STPTs), but only he will see those changes. He must hit Save in the DTC if he wishes to keep the changes.sounds great (4. Upon entering the TE module, all pilots should see the TGT STPTs/LINES/PPTs.) but doesn’t work for me.
my TE is called airshow so i save a .ini and rename it to airshow.ini and edit the targets a bit by hand
then i load the airshow TE and load the DTC but nothing changes, same STPTs as the TE
i also tried TEairshow.ini

The ini file isyour pilotname file, not the TE. So, when you click LOAD on the DC card, it will copy steerpoint (and other info) in the current TE from the data card (whatever was previously saved). So, first you have to put the steerpoints in the correct position in the map, than SAVE to dc so you can view as plain text.
