Turning off EEGS funnel but keeping dot of death on?
-
It has to be a few years old since the MiG-29 in the german airforce got retired in 2004. The MiG-29’s were then “sold” to poland for 1€ per plane which then overhauled them. In total, 9 MiG-29 were remaining.
The german MiG-29’s were replaced by the eurofighter. So, the video is made before 2004 if the description is correct.

Is this just the pipper transitioning between EEGS levels (EEGS Level III to EEGS Level V, for example)?
Its not. The only EEGS level to omit the funnel is level I.
Not declutterable on newer F-16s, but this tape is obviously older than what you get in falcon anyway.
Would be pretty cool to have stuff like this sort of HUD, but I can see it being a nightmare to implement correctly.

That’s what I see. When EEGS has a Level V tracking shot solution it declutters the funnel. When the target maneuvers the funnel comes back.
-
Keep in mind that the video shown is very old, so the EEGS shown in the video may or may nor be in use. Depending on the F-16 version, year, etc. I will look around see if I can find more info.
Yeah,
The newer EEGS probably doesn’t do that. My bad for saying that for the latest EEGS system. -
The funnel dose not blank out .What your seeing is the video footage from the AVTR and not the actual HUD footage. The AVTR blanks out the funnel .
Note.
Depending on the tape version, some AVTR’s will record the funnel. -

By the way, talking about the thread, I have been looking but have found no information about changing EEGS symbology, or pilot options to change EEGS symbology. I do believe that BMS has it very good modeled and I have no way to explain the EEGS shown in the video beyond what you guys have posted.
-
Well lets say its close. Some errors here and there. For example and staying on the subject of the EEGS funnel ,the real funnel responds to the maneuvers of a FCR tracked target and is parallel to the target’s POM. Not the POM of your jet. (plane of motion)
-
The funnel does not use the FCR. It is render by using the shooter’s POM and g’s for the target’s POM/g’s. For it to work accurate, both the shooter and the target must be in the same POM, at the same g’s, and the target is ranged by the wingspan in the funnel.
-
You sure ?
-
The Multi Command(?) manual has a good description of EEGS levels.
I didn’t see level 4 EEGS in the video. That has the +9g and 0g pippers. Target g’s is the last spec that is computed and then the dead dot is rendered.
-
I’m confused.
I’m clearly talking about EEGS level 4/5, Incase you missed it ill repeat "the real funnel responds to the maneuvers of a FCR TRACKED TARGET "You talking about level 2 ?
-
I don’t think the funnel is upgraded by the FCR. If it was the death dot would always be inside the funnel.
-
Well I wont say " I think"
All I will say is
Level 2 funnel - GUN POM
Level 3 Funnel TGT POM -
things change.
What you are saying is somebody photoshoped this old video?
-
The video is showing EXACTLY what I’m saying, unlike BMS where in both situations the funnel follows the GUN POM
With no lock , the funnel follows GUN POM
With lock the funnel follows TGT POM -
I don’t think the funnel is upgraded by the FCR. If it was the death dot would always be inside the funnel.
Well the dash disagrees…
-
There are a few frames that supports what you are saying. The funnel blinking in this video does not help.
-
Well the dash disagrees…
Witch dash? It can’t remember if it uses FCR above L2.
I like the OP request of turning off the funnel and Leech’s input.
If the locked funnel is not TGT POM it’s clutter, imo.
If it is TGT POM is useful. -
I Think is from -34
In levels 4 and 5, the funnel is a mix of the level 2 (and 3) funnel
behavior and that of a director sight, where the lead angle is developed entirely from tracking data that is independent of
gun motion. -
Witch dash? It can’t remember if it uses FCR above L2.
Generally speaking, there is only two dash manuals it could fall under, the -34-1-1, and the -34-1-1-1.
As the gun operation is not classified, its found in the -34-1-1.
It is also detailed briefly in the MCH included with 4.32 (at present - DJ said he was planning on having it removed a while back).
Brief rehash of the levels for you - level 1 is bent or inop FCC (now MMC), level 2 is no tracking data, levels 3 to 5 are tracking data with increasing levels of accuracy, with level three being basic position data and level five being position velocity and acceleration data. All of this data is acquired using the FCR.
If you have a read of the Air to Air chapter of the MCH it details the basics of the EEGS operation. If you have a read of paragraph 1.11.4.9 out of the dash, it also details the symbology used. 2.7.2.2.10 details the operation of the funnel and how levels 4 and 5 blend director and LC behavior.
What mvsgas said, basically.
