Taking out aircrafts on the ground
-
But … actualy is not a bad idea…
Maybe something to consider as an possible (?) improvement for the future. (?)
It would make sense, right?
Could make some fun use of the bunker busters also if the aircrafts were located in shelters. -
@Tronald:
(not when they are about to take off or land, but rather when they are “grounded” between missions)?
no, they only appear before take off. between missions, they r invisible and cant be destroyed.
u can try to attack a functional airbase, its fighters will tkof to intercept u. bomb them before that. -
Bump, another idea on the subject:
How about exploring the possibilities of making it so that bombing the hardened bunkers on an airbase reduces the number of available aircraft on the squadron thats based there?
-
Roll the dice and hope that they were using that particular bunker that day to store aircraft. If you roll 6 or more you get to destroy x aircraft. But you know, I’d rather see a/c sitting on the ramp AND in the open hangers, not hiding. And where is all the FOD causing stuff?

-BabiteIt would be nice to have busy airfields. Maybe soon? So when you fly an OCA, you have many things to bomb, or things can get damaged/destroyed from collateral damage. Don’t know if that can be done, due to the assets that would need to load but that would be cool.
-
i think being able to destroy aircraft on the ground is a great idea, at least for VS AI campaigns. tie aircraft in squadron to a hangar or other runway outbuilding and then give it a random % chance to destroy some aircraft when it blows up. might be cool. gives a motivation to hit things besides the runway.
-
In a normal campaign you just have to wait untiul 2nd day is over. Red side will not have much aircraft left and blue side will be equipped nerly with 100%
-
Why not let em get airborne and have a fair fight? on another hand, it’s rarely fair when fighting mig-19 - 25’s.
-
that’s what MC is for. bump DPRK aircraft to standard 23/25, instead of 21/23 and it becomes a little more interesting. or just play tiger spirit. i’m in a 4 player COOP tiger spirit campaign: it’s day 3 and we still see red air after constant sweeping. the chinese industrial must be at least as strong as blue, considering the thrashing we’ve given them. for reference i think our flight has over 200 kills. mostly sukhois
-
in KTO Wonsan AB will continue launching sorties as long as they have repaired runways even though blue forces are surrounding them on the east (water on the west) and you can circle above and see them spawn then line up and taxi providing real fun downing them, strafing them and bombing them with cbu’s and watch out for blue fighters launching 120’s into the furball it gets fun crazy. I posted pics of this in the screenshot section a week or so ago.

Because I like realism?
It’s not like I kill the option for air combat just because I sometimes would want to play that aspect like they do in real life.
As we all know, real life combat has got very much to do with not giving the opponent a fair fight. -

As we all know, real life combat has got very much to do with not giving the opponent a fair fight. That is correct sir. We play a balanced sim with bms. Arguments about weapons being too powerful (i.e. HARM’s) or too weak, but the reality is that most of the weapons and aircraft should be better in terms of avionics and weapons/weapon delivery systems. The recent conflicts against western technology have proven that even the latest gen 4 jets far exceed any other countries efforts against them. Not saying that Mig’s and Su’s are weaker, but that the western countries have better trained pilots and avionics than any other airforce the west has come up against. It is that way for a reason. You do not want a fair fight in a war. You want superiority from the “go”. Would I bomb aircraft on the ground before they got into the air, you betcha! Make that doable for bms? Don’t know if that can be done, but it would be nice.

What about bombing taxiways? I know that if we taxi ourselves into a crater we blow up, but what about AI?
-
AI is immune to craters.
C9

Perhaps, but if you reduce the operation level of an airfield to 0, no planes will take off from it. Though I can’t see the point in bombing taxiways, when it’s far simpler to turn up at night, line up on the runway and ripple a full load of BLU-107s whilst pumping flares and chaff with burners lit. One pass, haul ass.
-
the reason for not doing that is if they have even rudimentary SHORADs present you’ll die
same principal can be applied with JDAM toss though. just from farther away.

Once i attacked the last remaining runway at Wonsan, loaded with two GBU’s. During the first run i saw two MiG-23 rolling to the runway thru the targeting pod. It was very tempting to move the laser to the Floggers and blow them up but i had to finish my task. Hitting the first runway section let the MiG’s turning around and rolling back to the parking slots. To bad i had already dropped all of my A2G ordnance …

that’s what STRF is for my friend.
because 1940 never really ended.
-
Low level strafing is a very bad idea when hostile ground units are in the area. You’ll end up as a smoking hole in the ground …
-
right in the middle of their runway. just as planned.
