AI AAR?

Quick question: I know that KC- flights are always sent up by the AI planner, but does the AI actually ever use them, in the sense that the AI plans for packages to AAR during missions without a player interfering?

Not yet. Except maybe in some very specific situations where AI which has reached their bingo has a Tanker in proximity and no suitable airfield to land.

i’ve seen AI-generated missions have tanker steerpoints, but not sure if the AI would follow them. dee-jay’s probably got the right of it, though that may be because the default tanker tasking is so conservative as to be almost useless; at least in korea, airfields are almost always plentiful and so tanking is reserved for pre-ingress refuels over the ocean before deep strikes, and little else. can’t really task the tanker over a DPRK missile/AAA battalion, after all.

AI skip waypoints if they are late. There is a “tanker” type point. I’ll give it a test and see if given extra time AI will tank at a fuel type waypoint before continuing.

I have seen tankers in campaigns regularly but have never see anyone actually refueling.

You can however frag an AI package to perform AAR, I usually do this on Deep Strikes with a tanker that I fragged myself (SP). The AI ATO frags them way south for them to be of any use usually.

yeah. i set up tankers over the ocean sometimes, and if you frag a CAP with a patrol time of like 5 hours, and then give them a refuel waypoint somewhere along the tanker track, they will still be up there (so haven’t jokered in the meantime) meaning they seem to be capable of doing it.
