Radio instructions…can't get to talk to the tower, nor will he respond
-
I have channel 15 as my tower frequency and load that in the data cartridge,
In the ramp start
I have my Comm1 and Comm2 knob turned up for full volume, and my UHF switch is turned to Main.
I press COMM1 and adjust the setting to 15 in the ICP. The frequency number that shows is the proper number for my airport. However, when I ask for chocks to be removed by pressing T - 8, nothing happens. When I ask for taxi request, nothing happens, don’t hear any response.
What is the step that is missing?

I think where you say ‘UHF switch is turned to Main’, it should be ‘Both’. Then, on the left mid-panel, look for the rotary for ‘CNI’ and set to “UFC” (Up Front Controls).

You can also set the frequency in the data cartridge. Just open the DTC window before take off, go to the comms tab and use the “set tower” button. Now you just load your DTE on rampstart and it automatically sets the right frequency. Don’t forget to set the CNI knob to UFC otherwise only the backup controls will work.

…and what frequency is channel 15 showing? What airbase are you at? Just checking

Main or both doesn’t matter for this. Both just sets a separate transceiver to the pre-programmed guard frequency. While you probably programmed the DTC with the correct frequency preset, sensible diagnosis will first attempt to raise ATC by a manually-entered frequency.
Confirming intercom operation:
1. Turn on oxygen equipment
2. Adjust intercom volume until a reasonable level of breathing is heardReview COM1 radio setup:
3. Ensure COM1 volume knob is fully CW
4. Ensure COM1 function knob set to MAIN or BOTH
5. Set DED to main display page and confirm that BUP is not displayed
6. Press and release the COM switch on the throttle to briefly activate the UHF radio transmission, note the “pop” soundReview COM1 frequency
7. Press ICP COM1 and enter the frequency in Mhz of your current airbase followed by enter.
8. Verify the correct frequency for the UHF radio is displayed on the DED.
9. Press T twice and request Altimeter QNH as a test of communications with the facility. -
