AIM-9 sound problem
-
My AIM-9’s (all versions) make a really annoying high pitched monotone noise when I select them, instead of a growl. The noise is so awful that it gives me a headache and I need to stop playing. How do I fix this?

Check your cockpit setup is correct in the advanced setup screen for sound. Failing that see if an update for your sound card or motherboard sound drivers is available and a game profile. Failing that not finding a cure, switch to AIM 120’s on the wing tips. I had that issue in SP4 and the sound drivers did the trick, but things have moved on a lot since then.

…or you can adjust the volume knob on the left console. It is in the manual somewhere. If I had it handy I would give you a reference but I’m not at my computer at the moment.

Yes nothing to do with sound card drivers.
As schnidr mentioned adjust your “MSL” volume knob on the Audo1 panel. Next to the Throttle.
Another option is to switch back to NAV mode until you need otherwise.

Sounds like you need the Robin Olds Sidewinder Sound Mod.

Hahaha I can’t stop laughing, I’ll definitely consider that.

Yeah my drivers are all good, guess I just have to live without sound. Too bad, I really do like that AIM-9 tone.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by the volume knob.
Please look down and to your left in the cockpit and look for this panel. (Pg. 70 of the BMS manual in your documents file that is provided with the install)

Do you see the big knob on the top right of the panel? Move your mouse cursor over this button and use right or left clicks (or the scroll wheel on your mouse) to adjust the volume knob in either direction until it is at a level you can be happy with. You may also notice other knobs that can be adjusted on that panel as well as many other clickable switches, handles, and knobs in the pit. I recommend you study up on some of the material in the BMS Manual And the BMS Dash-1 manual.
Not being sure of your experience flying sims, but since your new here, I want to first say welcome to BMS.
Secondly, when you ask a question on this forum, it is generally expected that you give a description of what you have done to try to solve the problem. There’s a ton of people who will help you, but it is expected that you do study the material provided as it is considered by some that you are asking them to do the studying for you, usually resulting in one of these…:rtfm:
And if your a newbie to the sim, don’t get discouraged. I still learn something new all the time and it has been great fun!
P.S. If you haven’t read the forum rules yet, I recommend it. Some of what I told you is explained in there along with some other things you should know like what you can/can’t post. The site is continuously moderated and nothing gets by them here.

When he uncages the seeker… Awesome.

AAre you talking 9P here? I’ve noticed when selected it makes no noise at all, then when locked on a heat source it makes a high-pitched beeping noise. No Robin Olds here at all. It’s not worried me before as I rarely use 9P, but as you mention it…

I have the same for the 9P on my install, IIRC, its normal.

Yep, Dee-Jay confirmed on the other thread the same. I was expecting to hear the growling noise rather than clean tones hence my fear something had gone FUBAR, but as these are the stock tones I’m happy to say I feared the worst when all is indeed well.
