Reinstalling Issue: "The registry entry…"
-
FYI,
if you want to reinstall BMS, sometimes you might see an error message like:
“The registry entry points to a folder that does not contain a valid Falcon BMS 4.32 install. Please restore the missing files and try again or remove the registry entry to be able to install the product again.”
This message comes up if you e.g. simply deleted the BMS folder instead of using the proper uninstall method (using the normal setup program), or if something went wrong during the uninstallation process.
In such a case, you can manually cleanup any leftover BMS 4.32 registry entries by using this file (unzip, right-click, select “merge”), works for both 32bit and 64bit OS:

Not wishing to point out the obvious, but adding it to the Programs and Features list and making the key removal part of the uninstall may be an idea you’d like to consider. Then it would be a professional install.
Just a thought, take it or leave it.

Not wishing to point out the obvious, but if you had read the original post you might note that the key removal is part of the uninstall, and this only happens when you delete the directory without running the uninstall. Reading posts is generally a professional thing to do.
Just a thought, take it or leave it.

….
It IS on the program list… the uninstaller works just fine to remove the registry entries…
Did you even installed BMS ?
I’m starting to think you have some kind of old version of Falcon and spamming all of this forum for nothing.
I’m curious as what do you think you know to call an install “professional”. Its not because you took Computer Science 101 that you suddently know everything, man…

I’ve been a professional software engineer for 12 years and I know I don’t know everything.

I am having this issue, I goofed up and deleted the BMS directory and Falcon 4.0. Now I get this error, I have search the HKLM>Software for anything Benchmark Sim related and can’t find anything any help with this would be appreciated.
EDIT: I may have fixed it by just recreating the directory that it was looking for RIFF
Thanks,

I am having the same issue. I have tried everything and still no luck. I have tried the cleanup with new name 4.33, I have looked in the registry yet there is no benchmark sims folder of any sort. I have deleted all game content to try to reinstall. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I had to recreate the folder it was looking for in the directory before the setup would launch. I think I fixed it.

Hi,
I had the same problem on a Win7 64 bit.
Using the search function of REGEDIT with “falcon bms 4.33”, I found and delete a “benchmark sims” folder in “HKey_local_machine\software\wow6432node”
After that, i was able to reinstall 4.33 without error message.
Hope it can help. -
I cannot find that Hkey… I cannot install the BMS4.33 again
