NUM LOCK affecting keystrokes.
-
The keystrokes pertaining to the Num Pad on a standard keyboard are affected by the state of the NUM lock key. Does anyone have any useful suggestions on how to get around this problem?
Example
Num Lock on, Shift + Button 6, View Rotate Right
Num Lock Off, Shift + Button 6, HOTAS DMS Right. Is this intentional to use 2 layers of commands for the pad or a glitch?

Oddly in my BMS setup the input is NOT altered by the numlock status. If I bind something to num_1 it’s the same input no matter if numlock is on or off. If I enter the DIK code manually it shows up (e.g. “end”) but is never recognized as input.

Sometimes you have a shifted layer in the keyboard directly at the hardware level. For example, I have a fn key (function) on my laptop, if I do “fn”+“F6” windows will never see the F6 press.
Maybe that is what happens with you.

Ive had a look at it in Freefalcons setup and the original falcon 4 as they are the only code references for the sim that I currently have and in both sets the same issue occurs. It could be that its a left over from the days when everyone had PS2 keyboards and now they are generally USB input devices. But it definitely has an issue on my Saitek x52, The DMS functionality I had to take off the number pad altogether and put it in blank key press holes to assign the keypress to the key. Ive contacted Saitek / Madcatz about the issue and they are looking into it.
Your right about the shifted layer crusader, but its my understanding from Red Dogs manual and other references off the net that the shifted layer state for direct x is only available to USB devices numbered 1 to 4 devices over that lose the pinky shift function. My stick is on device 8 for some reason.
Ive already tried remodding the config file to adjust for device 8, so rather than the shift state adding 256 to the call number Ive already tried the plus 60 to get it to the shifted layer 1 set of calls, but to no avail unfortunately. 12 primary 32 slot USB devices with 4 shifted layer for devices 1 to 4. I think ive come across a major solution for that though with a combination of keyfile for 32 direct x calls and the pinkie switch calls being in the profiling software for the stick.
Even tried Hard Decks profile and key file but none of the shifted state calls work, however its not like i need a million stick functions anyway, just be nice to sort out the issue for others to make use of.

Its a glitch. Moreover not a particularly common one it seems.

Thats good then so long as its not just me. Now they can sit back and do nothing about it and the keypresses can stay screwed up. thats confirmed what I thought anyhow, thanks

What a dick thing to say. Could you be any more ungrateful?

Personnaly, I’m not understanding Blu3wolf’s post as a confirmation.

Also had some Problems with the KP keys… only soloution was to search key kombinations that do not have a dual layer Option in differnt Keyboard-layouts. (I use a swiss layout, Close to german with some function of French Version)

I’m unable to reproduce … but test are done with vanilla key assignation and no shifted keys on the Numpad
With BMS key; Numlock active or not I get the ICP keys with my keyboard KP
With keystrokes.key Numlock active or not, I get the View rotate directions with my Keyboard KP
With my custom key files, Numlock active or not I have no function assigned on my keyboard KPIn all 3 case, pressing my KP corresponds to NUMxx on the BMS UI and never relates to two different functions according to NUMlock status
So to me, everything is normal
I suggest you confirm your key file is vanilla and which keyfile you refer to?
