Hi,
please have a look:
https://www.google.de/maps/@36.7219331,127.5040672,779m/data=!3m1!1e3And then they turn 180° to start?

Sometimes.
It’s called back-taxi.
In this case, they could back-taxi 24R and then turn around and take off on 24R, or even take the taxiway there at the end over to 24L and take off from that one. It’s done commonly in general aviation at airports that don’t have taxiways at all. Also consider a case where the taxiway is blocked or out of service due to construction/etc.

I’ve been in an airliner that did the same here in Greece in Macedonia airport. I believe it’s standard procedure if the rwy width permits it.

I’ve done it as a general aviation pilot. And seen others do it.

I’d guesstimate that 2 out of 3 airports in Norway lack taxiways reaching the thresholds. Backtracking 737s, A32xs and DH8s everywhere. ENCN, ENTC, ENAL,ENML and ENKB are the larger ones.

Go to Skiathos in Greece and watch the airliners land on a small strip, and then turn around 180 and taxi back down the active whilst another is lining up on take off, also on the active. Very cool.

its called back-tracking.
on runways you can have a higher taxi speed (no FOD danger). On taxiways the speed is normally limited for FOD. -
Look at Male airport on the maldives, there you have no other option, so yes, they do it if it is needed due to “limited space” for the airport
-
Some runways are made for this.

Hahaha classic Aussie ATC…There goes the Vodka burner lmao

Backtracking is quite common in small airports, or in large airports undergoing WIP with closed taxiways.
Runway width is normally not a problem unless you are talking about really heavy metal. For trivia, minimum width for 180º turn on a 737 (-800W) is 24.1m. Normal runway width is 45m.

I got some cool photos of 737s etc landing and taking off right above my head when I was in Skiathos. I’ll get them off the camera tonight if I don’t forget…

Most of Mexico airports are designed this way as well. Cheaper to not have parallel taxiways.
