Throttle Question
-
Hi, I am new here and I am wondering what is the difference between step throttle up, throttle down and step throttle down and throttle back. I am trying to re key my controls and want the = key to throttle up and the - key to throttle down. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

It’s meant for keyboard use only. But I’m sure you’re flying with a new shiny joystick, right?

The callbacks are
AFCoarseThrottleDown -1 0 0XC 1 0 0 1 “Ctrls-Step Throttle Down”
AFThrottleDown -1 0 0XC 0 0 0 1 “Ctrls-Throttle Back”
AFThrottleUp -1 0 0XD 0 0 0 1 “Ctrls-Throttle Forward”
AFCoarseThrottleUp -1 0 0XD 1 0 0 1 “Ctrls-Step Throttle Up”So I would think that the coarse commands move the throttle a lot on each key press.

The coarse one moves throttle in steps (thanks, Cpt. Obvious), and that’s the one I generally use if I fly with just keyboard and mouse.
I never actually note down what RPM each step roughly corresponds to, or even if the steps are linear or not, but those steps are quite well placed. When I am cruising, and find myself gaining speed, bring the throttle one step back will do. When you are landing, though, you do need adjust the throttle quite a bit more often.
The other callback, throttle forward/back, just moves the throttle forward/back continuously as long as the key is pressed. That is the reason why I find that step up/down is much better than the throttle forward/back because those steps are fixed, you’ll know, once you got used to it, about what thrust you’ll get.
The only problem I have with step up/down is that it gets too fine when you go to afterburner, which usually isn’t fine at all in situations that call for afterburner (puns intended). You’ll need a lot of fanatic pressing to get to full afterburner, and a lot of cursing when you need it back down to full mil. So I would map also the key press for full/min afterburner as well.
