How to shoot guns and missiles?
-
Hi,
I am a long time veteran of Falcon 4. I have flown since 1999 on the various versions of Falcon 4.
After a hiatus of many years, I decided to try BMS again.
I have installed up to patch 7.
How do I get the guns and missiles to fire? I can lock onto the enemy jets without a problem. Master arm is on. Neither pressing the space bar, nor the weapons release on my HOTAS (CH fighterstick pro) will fire any missile or the machine gun. I have never had this as an issue with any of the prior renditions of Falcon 4.
So far I have just tried this in instant action and in dogfight modes.
I have tried looking for instructions on youtube.com but I have not been able to find anything that helps. What is the trick to get the weapons to fire?
I would appreciate any helpful directions. Thanks!

Maybe you’re still on NAV mode?
You need to get into either AA mode - press the knob on the ICP, or into DGFT mode - just press d on the keyboard. Then you can select your weapon of choice in the SMS and fire away.
Note, for amraam - long press the pickle. -
Have you loaded the bms keystrokes file inside the game setup Paul? If your keystrokes are loaded, and should be able to press them and check from the controls page on what command it registers. Also, if you haven’t try depressing your pickle button for at least 2-3 seconds to fire SARH or ARH A-A missiles.
P.S. Welcome back

Try the gun trigger thingy and the missile release button.
If that doesn’t work find out what the gun trigger thingy and the missile release button thing is mapped too.
Do you have a stick? yes you do, you might need to programme the stick with the above thingies in mind.
Sorry I cant be of more help but I cant remember that far back in the past where I couldn’t even get the guns to fire.

Hi KidVicious! How have you been? Good to see you after all these years. Any of the other guys still around?
I looked at the default setup and I noticed that no keys are assigned for the gun nor for the weapons pickle - odd. I also noticed that the key commands on the keyboard layout pdf file that comes with the game are not the same as what is in the default setup - also odd.
Am I supposed to load up one of those default layouts in order to have things setup like the pdf file shows? Looks like there are 2 options - which one corresponds to the pdf file?
Thanks!

Both BMS.key and Keystrokes.key have an associated PDF in your docs folder.
You do need to load one of them (or make your own …. or modify one of the defaults to suit you).
IMHO … BMS.key is a better start for a HOTAS or Pit setup and keystrokes.key is if you need to rely more on key commands (limited HOTAS/joystick functionality, for example); Keystrokes seems to have a few more of the legacy Falcon4 bindings. ymmv.

Slowly relearning this stuff.
Feel like a newbie all over again!

I have found the opposite. “keystrokes” has less conflicts with my HOTAS. Just my observations.

I think that can only be true if you are using a 3rd party ‘keyboard emulator’ or other ‘middle-man’ software to interpret your HOTAS commands. And even so, my suggestion (just an opinion) is that BMS.key is a better starting point for creating HOTAS commands.
