Radio Frequencies on BUP controls
-
BUP control head presets are fixed at present and not editable. That’s a limitation of the present implementation.
Like Moort said … 15, 16, 17 or 18 … whatever you want. (but as a convention, we are used to use 15 as “standard” preset for Tower. Important is Frequencies!
But for info… it is true that IRL, channels assignation are standardized… I will try to retrieve them if you want. They are not the same than in BMS.
@Red:
again, the channels do work and can be implemented in BUP
the manual frequencies don’t work (yet) and are not implemented
At this time we have 20 presets 1-19 to work with in BUP. these are hardcoded (just like in real) and do not corresponds to the usual 20 radio presets from DTCDuring beta we had some problems making IVC work on all presets but that was a bug.
So, I have here some standard F-16 Channel to Frequency pairings for a specific wing. I had vague ideas of trying to use them for their intended purpose, but certain functions are not present in BMS as yet (differences between GROUND, TOWER, APPROACH, ARRIVALS, and DEPARTURES, for instance), and others I believe are tied to a specific channel rather than a specific frequency (COBRA being UNIFORM 7 rather than BMS’ equivalent on UNIFORM 13).
Ive also run into the issue of none of them being accessible from the backup controls.
Im starting to head in the direction of scrapping most of the UNIFORM standard presets and just using the VICTOR ones. This would mean that my UNIFORM channels would be mostly the same between BUP and UFC. any suggestions?

I’ve absolutely used B/U UHF to have custom channel-freq pairs, at least for ch15 and ch16. I had ch15 set to Kadena tower and ch16 set to Pusan tower and I could chit chat with them all day without using the UFC. The B/U UHF radio seems to take on the DTC values. I haven’t tried altering ch1-14 though.
Nothing in BMS should be tied to the channel number specifically. If you swapped the default freqs for ch1 and ch6 for example you should hear own flight only on ch6 and package on ch1 instead of the normal way around.
If you want chU7 to act like default chU13 then set U7 to 307.300 MHz and it should be “guard” for B/U and UFC UHF.
-
Cheers, will mess around with it a bit then.
well, guard I understand is 243.000… Anyway. Part of the issue is that I cant change frequency use in BMS either - for instance, channel 7 (uniform) in the list I refer to above is listed as 275.300 - and I can set it to that quite easily, but then AI won’t use that frequency. (Kunsan Tower is listed as 292.300, and is on channel UHF 3… nice to see some frequencies match up! The range frequency for KOTAR is different on there though).
There is a .cfg setting to define the UI voice comms frequency, but I dont believe the AI take any notice of that.
Ill give the BUP UHF frequencies a go then, and if I can get BUP frequencies to work then its a start. Still not sure if Ill get UHF frequencies out of this that I want…
EDIT: Any chances that in the future it will be possible to configure what frequencies the AI uses? say a .ini file with frequency and purpose pairings?

So, Ive gotten a couple of useful bits and pieces out of the epublishing AF site.
Specifically this is what started this thread about the radio frequencies.
This is the typical layout inside an aircraft shelter at Kunsan. Could be some useful stuff to add perhaps.
This one is probably much less useful for BMS, but I thought it looked cool anyway so I thought Id chuck it up here.
This is the typical layout for aircraft parked on the Juvat Flow.
This the same, for the Panton Flow.
This one shows taxi flow between the two Flows.
This shows hot pit refueling taxi flow.
And this one is a general taxi flow diagram for the base as a whole. Nice to see the typical mission from Kunsan usually follows this fairly closely, although I think Ive been guilty of blocking the ROKAF tree more than once…
-
All that is already reflected by the newest Kunsan charts for BMS
as for the presets in the BUP, you can’t change them in 4.32 so forget it.
hopefully fixed in the future -
taking a little poetic license with the frequencies, hey? fair enough.
when you update those charts, is there an announcement? Id just assumed that the most up to date ones were the ones in my install folder. Guess not…
-
Red Dog I see you added ground/departure/approach/scramble on the latest version. I assume that’s eye candy and doesn’t work in BMS? Or am I missing a feature here?
-
you can use it…. but the AI/Tower wont join you on it.
so basically yes, eye candy, unless you have a human acting as ATC… which is sorta hard to organise given the limited tools in BMS for that sort of thing.
-
Glad you got it Bw
what happens if you click my sig?Fd,
We tried them in Mp in the past, and actually it works good enough with a little preparation and out of the box thinking
The good thing is that we actually can avoid the heavy chatter from the AI while we ramp and while we go out of the airspace.
Tower is still interesting to build your SA in congested event. but at least once you have enough SA, you can switch departure and at least communicate with your flightSo it’s not only eyecandy and can serve some purposes.
The hardest thing to coordinate is chocks, QNH & taxi information before you start Rolling. But that’s nothing impossible to do either (remember chocks works on any tower freq)Works great in a full human scenario as well, tbh, that’s the way it’s intended to be used

@Red:
Glad you got it Bw
what happens if you click my sig?It takes me to your interactive map of korea.
-
the new one with the updated charts, right?
That’s where the latest are
Always -
so, no option to download them all at once?
well, it took a while to download the relevant AFIs from the epublishing site… it will surely be quicker to download plates from the map I guess.
out of interest, I also noted from this document that the arming areas at the EOR at kunsan are reversed? The aircraft being armed at EOR should be facing away from the base, rather than towards the runway. The current textures for the arming pads are incorrect
-
Make sens doesn’t it?
At least when you’re at EOR you can check the final approach and not line up with a big C-17 landing -
er, no? you can see the runway better in this alignment, but you cant see the approach… and if you are lined up at the correct end of the runway, the approach end is the one you are worried about…!
I do get that the reason for the alignment of the pads is irrelevant in BMS (letting aircraft with armed forward firing ordnance enter and line up without having to have aircraft taxi in front of them), but its a little irksome. Most of the reasons for Kunsans layout are irrelevant in BMS…
Would be cool if this got fixed for the next version.
-
I meant the real one is much better
-
So, while I have your attention RD (yknow there was a pretty legendary canine with that moniker in the kimberley region of WA some years back…), how often would you update your published plates for korea?
Im just wondering if I should download them and have a copy, or if I should just download the ones I want from the site before each flight.
Physical copies make life a lot easier.

Ok, PvP I understand, human act is no problem. I was indeed thinking about AI. As one can’t remove chocks when not on tower, nor request taxi, QNH etc.
I thought maybe it was possible to have multiple frequencies set to the same airbase via the database or some bms file so that all the freq.'s actually just make you talk to the tower. -
admittedly Id like it if that kind of interactions between pilot and various ground agencies was improved to the level where different channels for ground, tower, approach etc were required in BMS.
Maybe for 4.34?
Id also be interested in how people coordinate comms plans for very large events like that.
-
how often would you update your published plates for korea?
Normally with each major update. next one is 4.33.
unless of course something serious pops up and calls for an update.Physical copies make life a lot easier.
agreed
i have all mines on a jepp binder for easy access in flightAs one can’t remove chocks when not on tower, nor request taxi, QNH etc.
it’s actually quite simple to overcome that one. Pick a VHF ops frequency that is also a discreet tower freq (not homeplate) and you’ll be able to remove/ install chocks and even get QNH. since it does not change with location but with time in 4.32, you can consider it the regional QNH and you’ll be fine.

Agree.
It would be “perfect” (much better) if we have separated freq for the:
- Tower (Taxi, takeoff, landing clearance)
and for the:
- “Approach” (GCA vectors at arrival, departures)
… same story for AWACS: would be good to have a:
- “Check In” freq (sort of limited broadcast for all packages, only limited to comm’s related to check in and check out procedures)
and the:
- “Tactical” freq filtering only your package and where only the tactical comm’s should takes place (without hearing the Intra Flight comm’s of others flight of the your package concerning only the flight internal management: fuel check, formation … etc …)
