Track IR3 vs Track IR5
-
I second it. Moving from TRackIR3 to 5 your going to see a major difference especially using it with Track Clip Pro you won’t have any struggles at all.
-
The function’s the same. Whether software’s the same however, is another story. By particular application of “flexible ethics”, milking the franchise for another iteration with no significant changes, iteratively… a good business model.

Is the Pro-Clip the wired powered thing? Because I really don’t want a wired attachment to my wireless headset.

Yes it’s powered through a USB lead, that also connects to the camera.

I’m not using the pro-clip with my TIR-4, but IIRC in the internet I’ve sawn some selfbuildings of a pro-clip with an autonomous battery…

Yeah I don’t really want to waste a 100$ headset for that, either, if something goes wrong.

What about a person who has never had any head tracking at all? Would you say I would be satisfied with TIR-4? Or should I just grab 5. I would rather save money to buy parts for my PC.
-
The step from 4 to 5 is relatively small. Many users settle with 4 and don’t feel the need for upgrade.
-
I use my TIR4 with the v5 software and it works great. If you can save a bit of $ that way then I would say that is the way to go. I would also recommend the Pro clip.

The step from TrackIR 3 to 5 is immense. There is simply no comparison. Both tracking angle, fps and resolution improve which make for a much better and smoother experience.
From TrackIR 4 to 5 the step up is not as huge. It’s mostly higher precision due to improved resolution and subsampling. If you’re choosing between 4 and 5 I see no reason to save a few bucks and get the 4 - the improvement is certainly worth the price difference. But if you already have a 4 and wonder if you should buy a 5 it’s a much closer call. Personally I would not hesitate - the 5 is better, and when you’re in a turning fight it makes a huge difference, but then I fly WWII planes as well where looking around is a lot more important.
