HSD symbols
-
Hi all
I was reading on the forums about how to determine where a bandit is using bullseye. It was mentioned that the white triangle on the HSD indicates north.
Does the 4.32 manual discuss this and what the other HSD symbols?
Thanks

I don’t know about v4.32 anymore as I am on 4.33 now. However in the -1 for 4.33 pg 78 it discussed the HSD.

No, it doesnt. However, most of the HSD symbols in BMS are pretty simple.

The HSD has four notches, giving NESW. The one with the small white tag (triangluar like you say) marks N, or 0degrees. On the FCR, the large white triangle is the current STPT.

Wrong, …. again
because you don’t bother to check what you post hereBMS 4.32 &433 dash1 page 79 of the 4.33 edition, but that information is also in my printed 4.32 copy
The inner HSD ring is divided by 4 cardinal marks. The small flag indicates North. The longer line indicates South and the two smaller lines point to East and West. These cardinal directions are useful to determine your direction from the HSD itself. They are also very helpful with bullseye situation awareness. By joining the North and South pointer you draw a reference line that can be used to quickly identify bearing from the bullseye calls. In the right example, ownship position is 158°from bullseye 16Nm and the radar cursor position is 271°, 7Nm from Bullseye.

because you don’t bother to check what you post hereIn fact, its become my habit to check all my posts before making them, to check for factual errors. Which specific past post, are you referring to? No doubt Ive made errors before… you make it sound like its a particular habit however. Not very in the spirit of the rules, is it? Follows the letter, I imagine.

You know it took me three goes to realise you meant the dash one, which was not in fact included with BMS 4.32. I understand it was included with later updates, however? A brief scan of the 4.32 manual (BMS-Manual.pdf, internally labelled jokingly as a -34) reveals the following information about the inner HSD ring:
@BMS-Manual.pdf:
The HSD bearing tics and North arrow have been properly scaled in size.
Well. Edifying at least.

I feel I must repeat this refrain, back to you.
