GBUs - before I start pulling my hair out. . .

Make sure your Master Arm is on. Also try holding the pickle button down at around 2 seconds.
-
Are you sure you’re at the release solution? The cue drops twice, once when in loft range and again at the real solution. Whatever allows a non-JDAM to drop should work with a JDAM. Are you getting the same inhibit with MK82s?
-
TerryW - can you post an ACMI for analysis in TACK VIEW. We can then at least see what the HUD looks like when you try and drop?
Try dropping JDAMS (GBU31’s) in MANUAL mode and see if they come off the rail ……

I’ll give it a try.
I did a few re-runs of the training mission using as many of the parameters as I could remember and everything works as predicted. That way I tested whether I had forgotten something or whether it is flight speed or something daft. It is only in campaign when it stops working.
NB I held the pickle button (on the second prompt) at 4s. It works in the training mission. I’ll try 2s. Master arm is on. I have a check list.

This used to happen years ago, dont remember if it was ff or red viper, dont remember the specifics either but people couldnt get their bombs to release ( me included ).
And worst of all, i dont remember the solution. But it was fiqured out.
Others will remember, im just to old and memory wore out.
Im sure its not the same problem but might give another thing to check. -
As I mentioned above the training mission release is fine. Clue one. I have noticed some lack of reliability with missile release as well I.e. aim120 - I have had to release the pickle button after a long wait for release and then press again and wait again before it will release. Not every time. I am wondering if the system gets too busy to service the pickle key.
I have worked out how to do acmi now so I’ll record a gbu run in campaign and post this.
Many thanks.

What’s your fps? at low fps, the message can be lost sometimes.

I’ve noticed that sometimes bombs (GBU or dumb) don’t come off the rack in CCRP mode at high altitude. Not sure why. Perhaps not being precisely line up on the bomb fall line??
-
Have you checked wind direction and strength? In some configurations, with high crosswind, the release is inhibited as far as I can remember…. Especially with dumb bombs
-
Interestingly, I was flying slightly off the bomb line and expecting the LGB to correct. It works in the mission training though. I also suspect that in real-life that you do not want to fly over the hornets nest.
I’ll watch out for wind. I didn’t notice the meatball being diverted in the HUD.

LGB? GBU-32? Are you dropping INS-guided or laser-guided bombs? The designations contain the letters “GBU” but otherwise they are very different in many respects. Tolerance for misalignment in aim for release is quite large for LGBs. I believe it is the “3/9” type constraint meaning simply passing the plane that the solution lies in perpendicular to the solution-target line is sufficient. As such the release is less restrictive than subsequent successful guidance, especially with low altitude and/or delayed lasing. It’s very possible to release an LGB that never guides as the laser is beyond the field of view of the laser seeker on the bomb or the bomb simply does not have the maneuverability to reach the laser spot if it is acquired. The maneuverability of the LGB is meant to enhance terminal precision and increase tolerance for unintentional errors in release. It is not recommended to release the weapon with deliberate errors in aiming.
The INS-guided bombs in BMS do not enjoy the relaxed release constraints that LGBs do. They have the same release constraint as unguided bombs. I don’t know the exact constraint(s) but consider the CCRP ASL-FPM misalignment where the ASL passes vertically tangent to the left or right edge of the circle at the center of the FPM symbol to be a marginal solution. There should exist no space between the ASL vertical line and the upper tick mark on the FPM, ideally they should overlay such that the FPM vertical tick mark is completely obscured by the ASL at release.

WOW. More complication than I imagined. Back to school . . . .
I suspect that I have been trying to drop INS guided munitions (GBU-3xX) using LGB methods and not realising the subtle differences (or probably not so subtle to someone who knows what they are doing).
As I mentioned above, it is back to school. . . .
