My new "used" cougar
-
Hi guys,
Just happy and wanted to share.
Bought off a guy locally. All seems to work fine ( tested on a laptop and did manual calibration to see if everything looks fine). Will see if something comes up.
I’m a happy camper
-
Wow never seen such good close up pics. Makes me want to get one…
-
I can take more shots if you want. I will not be setting this up till I improve on my simming

No you want to set this up as it will help immensely to improve your flying. Set it up using something like the real HOTAS (look in the Dash-1 for what does what, possibly look at Dunc_DX or any or the other keyfiles around to see how this is done). Things get so much simpler when the controls are at your fingertips and learning the switch-ology as you go is easier than having to relearn later.

Hmmm. I think I agree with you there. Just gotten used to the Logitech extreme and the keyboard and enjoy flying. Didn’t want to mess with the key file etc.
You’re right, will give it a go.
Thanks -
Ok, Dunc_DX profile is loaded and all seems to work fine (in the BMS setup screen) but I’m not getting the micro stick to show up as an axis.
I have set it to 7/8 in the CCP but there’s no way to see if it works, even in the analyzer.
Read a few threads about this but no solution. -
Nice score, it looks very clean.
Use a warthog myself but would love to have a RL throttle, it make setup choices very easy.
Have fun.

Read a few threads about this but no solution. To check microstick in the Foxy analyzer, reassign the microstick axes to windows axes 1 & 2 in the CCP. Restart the analyzer and the microstick function should become apparent.
In the BMS Setup Advanced, go to the section for cursor control and set cursor axis to toe brakes or rudder or whatever is available, until you discover the one that works.

Thanks. In manual calibration I see the stick working so I assume it’s not a dud.In BMS I only have the keyboard and mouse whee to choose from for the x,y micro stick axis. I am at a loss.
How about emulation mode in CCP? On or off?
-
Well I tried a lot of things with no luck. Will keep at it.
Loaded up basic handling TE and mayne, what a fxxxx nice feeling. I love it. Heavy stick movement compared to the Logitech for sure but man I like it. Especially having a throttle and BOTH HANDS ON THE THROTTLE AND THAT STICK.
Love Falcon love this community and I don’t mind the micro stick not working for today

What are the 8 cougar axes assigned to in BMS Setup? Sounds like you need to reassign the axes by trial and error until you find the right combo? Pay no attention to the names of the available axes in setup, as the names are BMS defaults by windows axis number.

Alright, cougar is fully functioning now.
Not really sure, but when I bought the HOTAS I got a TM Elite rudder from the guy for free (now I know why it was free, it doesn’t work!).
Anyway, I hooked up the rudder pedals and tried manual calibration. This time I got an error message about a center value being less or more than another value. This error concerned the rudder, Range and ANT.
Disconnected the rudder and tried another manual calibration and restarted the device.
That’s all, all of a sudden the L and R toe break axis choice is visible in BMS. -
Grats on your purchase! I bought my cougar several years ago at the unbeatable price of 99€ from the “Saturn” chain here in Germany. The stick had been sitting on the shelf like lead (nobody realized its apparent value, just noting the lack of FFB) so it was an easy decision for me to make. I bought another for a mate’s birthday, but he hasn’t used it in the last couple of years so I know I have access to a spare should mine ever break

Thanks hoover, I am really digging this thing.
Now, just need to get used to gripping it without pressing any buttons. Feels crowded even with my average sized hand.
The throttle is sweet in that respect. -
Anybody that has a cougar:
I was reading Cub’s PDF concerning “new” cougar owners etc and it stated to check the stick base metal on metal contacts for lack of grease.
Well mine is dry as ***.
Have you greased the metal/metal parts inside the stick base? if so, what grease is recommended? Or will any grease do?Thanks,

When this happens… Don’t waste your time scrubbing the web for replacements. Just go with the FSSB (receive mine this Wednesday), no idea about the FCC…

FCC3 is great. Mine has worked flawlessly.
-
Ditto that, FCC3 is a pretty fantastic mod. Though I have to admit Im comparing it to other sticks as I never used my cougar till Id bough the FCC3 to go with it.
Bit jealous of that used cougar… I paid quite a bit for an “as new” one that got sent to me with no box, the throttle not working, and chipped paint… this after being told it had been used twice!!
That one looks pristine in the pics!
-
I got a little used one for 80€, had to clean the throttle pot but other than that no problems. Need to save up to a fcc3 before I really fly with it though, I’m used to the x65 so I need the force sensing
-
I’m not knocking FCC in anyway fellas… FSSB was cheaper. A pristine Cougar is a steal in this day and age, enjoy it! Just trying to convey that when the rubber meets the road, be prepared for an upgrade that terminates the fiasco known as the original design (pot metal gimbals)… It is a great HOTAS system that I have enjoyed since 04, but you cannot get the quality parts anymore. Spent days looking for replacement parts… Evers and Nxt mods are dead, now its FCC and FSSB for the drop in replacement for your Cougar Stick. I really appreciate these two entities (FCC & FSSB), cause they keep the cougar viable, but be ready to spend some jack.
