Any mission comentary videos?
-
When I was learning DCS one of the best tools I found were a few youtubers that didn’t do a tutorial video, but flew an actual mission while doing a running commentary on what they were doing. It gave me some real insight on tactics and combat procedures above what a simple gameplay video.
is there any videos of this nature for BMS?
thanks in advance

There are many videos that range from dedicated tutorials to Podcaster “Let’s Plays” to video records for many human pilot online events. The particular type of a single player mission done well with a “what I’m thinking” commentary is a bit rare. Multiplayer missions are more common but the skillset of managing the SP environment is less prominent. If a pilot being really “on top of” the jet is uncommon, then getting two or more together is uncommon^N. A lot of MP videos have a significant skill gap between members which has predictable results.
I’ve always wanted to learn to record a flight so I’ll see if I can make something to spec.

In my opinion, BMS is/can be a bit too complex and dynamic to have a proper combination of both a good mission outcome and fluent commentary of what someone is doing and why he’s doing it. I might be wrong of course, but for now, I think finding (uncut) videos of MP missions will be the best thing you’ll find, as some tactics and actions may be discussed over the radio.

Stream of conciousness discussion is too slow for a lot of this. You would need to constantly pause the video in high intensity parts to explain what is going on and where your SA was at, likely with reference to ACMI during those parts.

I tried it but since I’m sick and stupid it didn’t record properly and it probably wasn’t that engaging if it had. What I found is that anything combat-paced 1, required my brain power so I stopped talking, and 2. involved so many considered factors simultaneously that I wasn’t able to express them in real time. The devil is truly in the details and little things like changing radar ranges or changing HSD centering were easily lost and can end up making the difference. Pausing frequently might give time to explain but might break the natural timing and flow.
Trying however made me reflect on a lot of bad (or non) habits I have where my inner critic is finding obvious flaws with the actions I’m describing myself doing. I’m curious what watching myself on tape will show so I’ll keep at it until I get a good recording. It might be terrible or uninteresting but I want to see if that’s the case.

See if anything I think that videos which give a presentation rather than just commentary on some video would be better. Art of the Kill is to the beginner more useful than watching KV’s videos (although perhaps not as awe inspiring).
Making video lectures about falcon topics could probably be a bit more engaging than, if less detailed than, writing a manual or TTP doc explaining this stuff.
