Squadrons Set by HQ

BfB has all human flyable Sqns with the HQ disabled as it was for the FoF events, as the Campaign itself is self balanced.
AI on both sides is supposed to be equal, in their own style. It´s a matter of humans to unbalance it.
They could have put Blue Sqns and Red-Aggressors Sqns with the HQ no sweat at all… it´s a 2 minutes change… But the Campaign was deeply tested without them taking part of the action.

So …
In the theater Add-On folder find a file with a .tdf extension (should be the name of the theater.tdf)
Find the line:
sounds dir
sounddir Add-On xxxxxxx\Sounds
add a # in front of “sounddir ….”:
sounds dir
# sounddir Add-On xxxxxxx\Sounds
(always backup the original file)

You’d have to make that determination on your own. I’ve never seen anyone say that they have won either versions campaign. But of course, they do have a time-out to end the campaign at a certain day/time as a draw.

You’re right, I should decide that myself; it’s downloading now. Isn’t it a conversion of the old Allied Force campaign? If so, I think that’s actually more my cup of tea than the FO one. Does it let you have 88’s?

If you fly offline, the best campaigns to fly are in Korea theater stock bms. If you are talking about AF campaign you can find there something similar.
Forget to have emotions offline in other 10 theaters around.Cheers

I’m also interested in learning how to edit a campaign, so all squadron missions are set by HQ. This issue is also present in the Aegean Wars campaign and I want to fix it. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

-Download Mission Commander (MC) from FALCAS (did I ever say THANKS for your tools already, FALCAS!! ? )
-Make a backup of the affected SAVEx.cam (SAVE0.cam or SAVE1.cam or SAVE2.cam)
-Open the affected SAVEx.cam with MC
-Go to Campaign tab or to Units Tab (I´m just explaining by memories, don´t have it in front of me)
-Select The affected Squadron,… it will open a new windows with many info and options.
-There will be a Set by HQ mark-box… Mark it.
-Apply/Save… and repeat with any other affected Sqn.
-Finally SAVE (It will overwrite the affected SAVEx.cam)It may be easier to create (launch) a new campagin and manually fix the HQ box… save… and use this “save” as starting point… Anyway, this is how to do it editing the Savex.cam file.
Take care with what you edit.

I just downloaded the Battle for Balkans theater for single player campaigning, and it looks pretty good. One thing that’s really annoying, though, is that I have to check “Set by HQ” for every single F-16 and M2000 squadron before starting. Surely, the starting status of the squadrons is kept in a file somewhere. Does anyone know how I could edit a file to make all the squadrons start as “Set by HQ”? That way, I don’t have to check them all each time I start the campaign.
On a side note, is it possible to use the vanilla BMS sounds in BFB? I’d kinda like to have the same sounds in every theater.

U1, you mean B1?? You don’t have to set any flag except Parent for squadrons to be controlled by the ATO(Set by HQ).

Yes B1is the flag that sets if squadron is ATO controlled ot not.
B2 allows to determine if clients are autorized to change the B1 flag in online campaigns

It is, but is difficult
In E111 we used to transform important checkrides (to ger the CR status and such things) from TE to CAMs in order to have a dynamic and unknown mission.
It is mainly done by using a new “Save5.cam” file… (the number 5 could be any other… in fact you don´t even have to name it like this)
In this “Save5.cam” we adapted the closets Save0/1/2 file to the scenary you want from the TAC, and import some of the flights you want to happen, like in the TAC… The rest of the flights, and even Scrambles will depend on the Campaign engine… That gives you a lot of fun, and incorporate wahtever you really want from the TAC.The procces is tricky, but doable, but I´m afraid I cannot explain here. Last time I did it, took us several hours “doing it” on TS, me and another guy, at the same time, because You really learn it by doing it, not by reading. Each time we wanted to do it is a little different, but after several times, you really get into it.
I can give you main ideas:
- Create a new SAVEx.cam from the most similar SAVE0/1/2.cam existing.
- Adapt teams owners, Sqns and such things
- export packages - flights, from TE to this CAM
Make sure you give some hours until the TO time, so Campaign engine has time to schedule and form some flights on both sides, and evaluate it. You will have to adapt wich Sqn is Scramble capable… and such things in order to not having 2000 enemy jets flying during the mission. Actually you have to keep it very tight. Remember…is a TAC working with the CAM engine, it´s NOT a fully working campaign. - Once you have test it out, make a SAVE on the campaign on the starting point (like the TE, but just a new saved status of the campaign, that will be pointing to the SAVE5.cam… although this step is not really needed… it is up to you)
- share The saved filed, and the SAVE5.cam with your pals.
Most important things.- Teams and alliances are criticals. If you don´t set it up correctly, campaign will CTD. Remember that in order to work, the campaign engine need to have “links” between friend and foes objectives…otherwise, the campaign will not now were to attack (ground and air), and will CTD…
Check how a saved status of a standar campaign is related to the original SAVE0/1/2 file (Like any Tac is related to the “te_new.tac” file. Once you open a saved file, youo will see its name, and wich save is it “looking at” as a reference.
This way you will nderstand that the NEW SAVE5.cam will have to have both the name, and the related cam files with the same name (itself= save5.cam)… so it doesn´t look to any SAVE0/1/2.cam, but to the new SAVE5.camIf you do the step of giving a saved status file, like “operationOverload.cam”, check it is related to “save5.cam”
Not a good guide… but hopefully it will give you right directions to investigate and test it out until you get it. I hope so, because this campaigns taken from TE are really an awesome enviroment to enjoy with your Squadron mates. It really makes a difference… Just another world.

The reasoning was some wings requested to use it on their own private servers and wanted the same type of MP environment, with human control. As we cater more towards MP, it was left with MP hosting in mind.
That being said I did request another instance SP/MP/FO so that there would be both a SP campaign with and without HQ control, just that it hasn’t been addressed yet.
The MP / FO instance does not contain the server files required to host our event as it is only intended to be used when connected to our servers.
A simple request can be made instead of debating between each other why we haven’t done it yet, but it has been on the list for some time just that I’m probably going to have to edit it myself… ha!
