HSD Range Rings

AFAIK, no DTC for the HSD CTRL page options in BMS. Maybe a “save cockpit state”? I don’t know too much about it.

I do it too : it makes what is really important more visible on the MFD.
I guess it’s a matter of training time. If you can train often enough so that paying constant attention to your basic parameters (speed, heading, altitude and attitude) becomes almost effortless, then the HSD ring becomes a lot less useful, so you can turn it off to get a more readable situation.
On simple missions, I even often turn nav lines off. I don’t need them when the flight plan is something like “Take off from STPT 1, get to STPT2 and come back”. -

How far are you from this important symbol ?( I assume your talking about a threat ring, AA target or SAM position, relative to your ownship position.
HSD range rings increase SA especially with the CEN option enabled.
They provide an estimated range for data link targets.They provide estimated range from own ship to threat rings sreepoints,IP,TGT , etc.
They help presenting the FCR B-scope distortion. Very helpful for new users to interpret FCR cursor position in the X and Y axis. Simply move your FCR cursor on a HSD range ring and presto your get the range. Move now the FCR cursors horizontally and observe the B-scope distortion, presented in a more simple way
At the end it is a personal preference…

Nope. Select the HSD as SOI, position the cursors over a PPT and then TMS down, and the threat ring will disappear. Does not need to be currently selected as a steerpoint.
Pretty sure this is in the BMS manual, somewhere around page 102 - 103… The section describing hands-on steerpoint selection and the operation of the A-G datalink.

Found it with searching for “TMS” in the manual. It’s on page 128.
I fly this sim for years, but still I’m learning… One could fill a 30 minute video tutorial on the TMS alone.

If not already mentioned …. the reverse works also. HSD as SOI. Slew the cursor over a pre-planned threat steerpoint and TMS UP … makes that point your current steerpoint.

They provide an estimated range for data link targets.Sure, but I can estimate range as well by knowing the current HSD scale. As I wrote, I guess it’s a matter of training, all the more so since you can’t really get an accurate range measurement with the rings either anyway. Maybe the rings sometimes give you an estimation that’s a bit more accurate, but in my experience the gain in accuracy is marginal at best, and that gain is a lot less important to me than getting a decluttered, fast to read, view of the tactical situation around my plane.
At the end it is a personal preference…

OSB #5 is the CNTL (Control) page for the HSD. When depressed a series of options are displayed
on most buttons. Highlighted options are currently active and therefore displayed on the HSD. When
the corresponding OSB is depressed the option becomes inactive (not highlighted) and the related
symbology is blanked from the HSD.
Options are
FCR: displays the fire control radar cone and the
ghost radar cursors.
PRE: pre planned steerpoints and their threat rings.
AIFF: should display IFF response but is not
currently implemented
Line 1: displays DTC line #1 (stpt #31 to #35)
Line 2: displays DTC line #2 (stpt #36 to #40)
Line 3: displays DTC line #4 (stpt #41 to #45)
Line 4: displays DTC line #4 (stpt #46 to #50)
Rings: displays the concentric range rings from
ownship.
ADLINK: Air to Air data-link information
GDLINK: Air to Ground data-link information
NAV3, 2 & 1: Are relevant to the INS flight plan but
only NAV1 is implemented in BMS and will displays

HSD cursor
When the FCR and the HSD are both displayed and the FCR is SOI, the HSD displays the ghost radar
cursors moving within the radar scan zone depicted on the HSD.
When the HSD is made SOI the ghost radar cursor is replaced with the HSD cursor which is shown
as a cross. Any cursor movement will then move this HSD cursor and not the radar cursor.
This cursor can then be used to select new steerpoints of interest and toggle ON or OFF specific
threat rings on PPTs displayed on the HSD. TMS up when depressed over a HSD steerpoint makes
that steerpoint the new steerpoint of interest, TMS down on a PPT will deactivate the associated threat
ring. -
Does anyone know how to set HSD,FCR or HAD default range, searching folders tree and files but without luck yet, thanks boys

Thought you could set that in the DTC, Id have a look at WDPs settings. Theres a whole page in there on that sort of stuff.
