Problem Installing Cougar MFDs
-
Hello all-
I seem to be the only one with a problem installing my Cougar MDFs. I plug them into my computer, load the software from the disc provided and nothing. My MFDs just sit an blink at me. I went to the software to try loading them and it lets me test all the button functions, the apply tab is not highlighted and I only can choose OK. I know I am not providing a good description for troubleshooting but I really don’t understand how to program functionality into these MFDs. Please help

okay, well it sounds like you did the install backwards. Usually its typical to load the drivers first, then plug the device in.
As it turns out, since formatting my computer Ive never used the disc that came with mine again. Doesnt seem to be needed after that.
What kind of functionality are you wanting to ‘program’ into the MFDs? They should be a directX device - you can program their keypresses in the Falcon UI. In fact a number of keyfiles are set so that when they are plugged in, their keypresses are automatically turned into the MFD callbacks.

Link you don’t need to install any software. Or you might need to set one as left (left indicator led is lit) and the other as right (right indicator led is lit)
But you shouldn’t need that software running all the time.Plug them in, start Falcon, go to setup, controllers. Find the LMFB-osb-1 entry, use your mouse to make the “Key” entry for it active (blue) and then push the top left button on the Left MFD, work down the list and clockwise on the MFD untill you have all 20 assigned.
Now do the RMFD-osb-X entries on the right MFD.
That’s DX assignment.
If you still have problems post back, and Blue will post another cryptic answer for you.
Good luck.

You don’t even need to do that if you use Dunc_DX keyfile (if you have a HOTAS Cougar too). Cougar MFDs are set up by default for you and you shouldn’t have to program anything (unless you have an unusually large number of DirectX devices plugged in).
As you’ve not given us any specific information about your system I can only give you generic advice. If you click on F16 MFD 1 (or 2) in the Windows Game Controllers app and all the buttons work when you press them that’s it, there’s nothing else to check and the Apply button should be greyed out. Just start Falcon BMS, go to SETUP > CONTROLLERS and watch the Input box in the lower right corner of the screen reflect any MFD key presses you make and if you need to program them just do as Shadow says above.
