Help request for installing updates
-
Hello, I’m new to the this forum and to the world of windows after an absence of more than ten years. I am trying to install the U2 and U3 incremental updates and can’t seem to do it. The problem seems to be that they cannot find the U1 setup.exe file. I managed to download and install 4.33 U1 and I seem to have two folders that are labeled “Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup.” One is on my C drive and the other is in my downloads folder. When I open these folders, all I see is a data folder.
The data folder in my downloads folder has two files: 4.33_update_2_Part_1.bsf and local.var. The data folder in the “Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup.” on my C drive, has 4.33_update_2_Part_1.bsf, 4.33_update_3_Part_1.bsf and local.var.
I don’t see the U1 Setup.exe file anywhere.
Any idea what is going on and how to fix it?
Thanks

Hello Ice,
Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful. However, I still think I am having some problems. As I indicated in my original post, I have two Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folders. One is in my downloads folder and one is on my C drive. The folder on in the downloads folder has a data folder which now has two files: 4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf and another file that says local.var. The data folder that is on my c drive has three files: 4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf, 4.33_Update_3_Part_1.bsf, local.var. However, when I run Falcon BMS, the version number at the lower right of the screen still shows 4.33.1. I thought that it was supposed to show 4.33.3if it was updated. So, it appears that I am makes some progress from last night but I still seem to be having problems. I am sorry to impose on you but do you have any idea of what is going on here? What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Start the setup program in the BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder on C:, which sounds like you have installed both U2 and U3 into/on top of. If you pick “Manage installation” you should see 2 windows. On the left is what is available in the installer directory and on the right is what is installed. Based on your latest post, I would expect to BMS 4.33 U1, U2 and U3 listed on the left side with their respective sizes behind them. And on the right it should only show BMS 4.33 U1 given that the game only shows that you have 4.33.1 installed.
If so, select both U2 and U3 on the left and there should be a button below to install/apply the updates?

Let’s just simplify things and start from scratch. Delete all your Falcon installer files and remove the Falcon program from your drive (backup what you need first!!). Then follow the instructions in the post that I linked.
There are a few things that you could’ve done wrong that’s leading to your problem but instead of finding out which, might as well just start fresh. If you have issues again after that, post back here. Good luck!

Tazz,
Thanks. I don’t seem to have a BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder as an application to run. When I try and open the Setup folder, I get a data folder but no application to run. I think I’m just going to uninstall Falcon BMS and delete all the Falcon stuff and start from scratch again and see if that works. I must have done something wrong during the original download and installation. I’m used to downloading a program, double clicking on an installer icon and that’s it. All this downloading via torrent, unzipping, pointing to folders etc. is very confusing. But thousands of people have done it so it can’t be that difficult.

Ice,
Thanks. Yes, I agree. I think that a fresh install is best.

Ice,
I just wanted to let you know that I did what you suggested and did a complete uninstall and reinstall following your directions and this time it worked! Thanks for the help.

Glad to know it’s worked. Sometimes, it is best just to start again than fixing a confusing situation
