Wingtip lighting flashing or steady?
-
Check squadron SOPs. Wingtip lights are per SOP and not detailed in the dash.

Ok thnx! I’m not sure if asking about RL SOP’s is in violation with the following forum rule. If so, please close the topic. Don’t want any trouble. I’m just interested in RL procedures.
2. Copyrighted/Classified Material: Posting of content which is classified in any manner such as FOUO (for official use only), export controlled, or contains any corporate, or government classification more restrictive than “unclassified”, and/or is wholly or partially the intellectual property of another organization or individual will result in the content being removed, and will result in a ban for any user who posts such material.

Real SOP’s are not confidential. you can find some in the web.
In belgium, lights drill are following (at least at Florennes AFB) :- startup : steady - strobe off
- ready to taxi : flash - strobe off
- when the aircraft move : flash - strobe on
- hold short, not ready to line up : steady - strobe off
- hold short, ready to line up : flash - strobe off
- line up : flash - strobe on.
- in flight : flash strobe on (at day), steady strobe off for inner aircraft (example : 1, 2 and 3 in a flight of 4 aircraft) (at night) and flash strobe on for the outer aircraft (in example : number 4 in a flight of 4 aircraft).
The idea is simple : on ground, the flash indicate that you are ready for the next step (taxi / line up), steady you are not. The strobe indicate the aircraft is moving.
in flight, at night, the inner aircraft need to be steady (flashing light caused wrong range illusion) and without strobe (can blind the aircraft in close form). The outer aircraft, because nobody need to take close up formation to him, will “mark” the flight with the flash strobe for the other flights. -
posting links to for example, the aforementioned RL squadron standards would be against that rule. Asking about the standards is not violating it though.
unfortunately the poor moderation team is pretty overworked, so the rule is only enforced when it is noticed. Id still recommend being safe by not posting content which will give them a reason to enforce it!
Asking questions is okay, posting classified or FOUO documents is not. Clear?

Real SOP’s are not confidential.
The last SOPs I saw were for the 157th swamp foxes (US) and those were marked FOUO - which is now not allowed on the forums. so some SOPs are still not allowed.

All airforces are different
All squadron within the same airforce are differentBMS is an entity on its own
All BMS vfw are differentBottom line: do what you want , you can’t be wrong

as with all rules mate
you don’t get fined on the motorway when you speed up unles you’re caught -
Strobes on latest blocks also have patterns, so you also see who-is-who on the formation with radio off.
Some quite good features for future implementation, the standard lighting panel is obsolete nowadays.

you don’t get fined on the motorway when you speed up unles you’re caughtWell this is pretty tangential, but its only that way with rules that require judgement calls…
anything which has simple detection and little to no human interaction tends to invalidate that. Unfortunately I dont think computers will get smart enough to replace moderators any time soon!

Its only a crime if you hurt someone, I want too hurt someone

In BMS, since all the monkeys flash all the time, we go steady to show human pilots are ready to go in MP. In SP it does not matter, you can flash like all the monkeys. Most important rule is no Christmas trees after fence out. Not very realistic, that.
-
Isn’t it fence in? Or did I get it the wrong way?
-
It is fence in yes.

We do the same for MP.

Flying into combat will all your lights on is pretty wrong.

… not if enemy is trying to wear NVGs during dogfight

Would they though? I would have though the missile plume would blind you.
Those kind of effects would be cool to see in BMS. Dunno if you could easily do that with DirectX 9.0 though.
