Cannot use mouse wheel to zoom or rotate knobs - please help!
-
I have recently set up BMS 4.33 U3 for the first time on my laptop. Everything runs fine, I set up my joystick etc. The only problem I have is that even though I have gone into advanced settings and selected mouse wheel for view zoom, the game does not respond. This is a huge problem and makes the game unplayable. I also can’t rotate any knobs inside the cockpit. At first I thought perhaps my touch pad was interfering and the game was only using it for scroll… But I disabled the touch pad and nothing changed. There is nothing in the keyfile for this or the Falcon BMS config file, besides set g_bMouseWheelKnobs 1, which is obviously enabled. Please help!!
EDIT: i’ve even completely uninstalled the driver for the touchpad, reinstalled the drivers for the mouse and still nothing!

View Zoom only works while in outside views. See BMS-Manual page 45:
View Zoom Axis
This axis controls the zoom range when viewing an object. Naturally, it only works while in outside
views. If this axis is mapped to the mouse wheel, you will be able to reset the zoom range to a default
value (specified by the 3d model currently in focus) by pressing the 3rd mouse button (which is usually
the mouse wheel).I recommend you reset your VIEW CONTROL page so that it looks like the screen on page 44 of the BMS-Manual. This will resolve your problem with the mousewheel, for the reason explained on page 42:
General notes about axis assignment
BMS detects the analogue axes from all connected devices. They can be selected from a dropdown
menu. You will only be able to map one in-game axis to one ‘physical’ analogue axis! So, if you, for
example, already have mapped the mousewheel axis to the view zoom axis, you will not be able to use
it to control FOV too!If you then need to look closer at cockpit dials & instruments you can either use the mousewheel to change the FOV temporarily (mousewheel button to reset), or use the ‘Look Closer’ callback (mapped to the L key by default).

Seriously, it was that simple? Thank you

Solutions always look simple in retrospect
Most simulation specific questions (installation, configuration, user interface, multiplayer etc) can be answered with the BMS-Manual. It might take a few rereads sometimes, as some of the terms can be confusing if you are new to Falcon, but it really is a treasure trove of information about how to setup and get the best from our beloved sim.
