IKAROS 4.1.0: Air to Air Engagement training
-
IKAROS Air to Air Training
Practise your air to air WVR / BVR skills around the beautiful island of Crete!
Package: 4900
Callsign: Nightmare1
2-ship F-16-Blk52+ HAF
designed for 2 human pilots, ideally IP & studentTake-off time from Souda RW29: 06:15
You will be facing different threats (all of them singletons) with increasing difficulty along the steerpoints of your flightplan. All opposing BARCAPs have station times of one hour or more, so you should have plenty of time to pay them all a visit, also allowing time to head for the tanker (see below) if necessary.
W3) MiG-21 BARCAP south of Kithira Airstrip: Equipped with only guns only, use for gun- or heater practise
W4) MiG-23 BARCAP north of Iraklion: Equipped with AA-8 (IR missiles)
W5) MiG-29a BARCAP south of Santorini Airport; Equipped with AA-10A (radar-guided)
W6) Su-37 BARCAP west of Karpathos; Equipped with a good mix of both heaters and radar guided missiles. This one can be deadly if you’re not careful!
W7) East entry point for Souda AB (RW 29)
Feel free to change the loadout of your package to include the weapons you’d like to practise with or to make the engagements more challenging. The default loadout includes two bags of fuel, 4 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9M Air to air missiles.
A tanker (KC-135, “Camel1”) is tracking along the southwestern coast from Paleochora to Gavdos island (40nm leg) should you need to refuel in between engagements.
AWACS support (E3 Sentry, “Chalis1”) is also available.
NOTAM: If you plan to use your AI wingman you’ll need to circle Souda AB a few times before he / she gets airborne. This is a known bug in 4.1.0 (incorrectly placed AI hold-short position) that will be fixed in the next IKAROS update. If you’re flying this TE with a human buddy this should be no issue of course.
