Canopy noise

How does one reduce the noise the canopy makes when closing, please.
-
Apply some grease or WD40.

You could adjust the f4sndtbl file but I’m not proficient enough to tell you which lines/values to adjust. The canopy sounds are maade of a several sounds stitched together, and like many others, cotains start, loop, and end sounds.
I really like the power relay ticking sound you get when the power switch is set to BATT or MAIN before firing the JFS and in videos of the the real thing (albeit the camer does not have a helmet/earmuff fitted) portrays the sound quite a bit louder than BMS has it. I edited that in Audacity to increase its volume (sad, I know). You could go that method, but in terms of audio quality, it might not be the best way.

Apply some grease or WD40.
WD40 is not a lubricant its a Water Dispersing agent (formula number 40)

Harry,
Thanks for the info - I don’t want to change the sound I just want less of it ;0)

Yeah that’s what I mean. You can control the attenuation etc. via the txt file, or by directly manipulating the .ogg audio file in something like Audacity.

Open the file …/data/sounds/f4sndtbl.txt, look for the following:
# 271 cockpit\canopyOpenStart.ogg 0 0 150 0 -200 -10000 S 0 8 0 # 272 cockpit\canopyOpenEnd.ogg 0 0 150 0 -200 -10000 S 0 8 0 # 273 cockpit\canopyCloseStart.ogg 0 0 150 0 -200 -10000 S 0 8 0 # 274 cockpit\canopyCloseEnd.ogg 0 0 150 0 -200 -10000 S 0 8 0 # 275 cockpit\canopyOpenLoop.ogg 0 0 150 0 -200 -10000 SL 0 8 0
and change the -200 value to something lower, say -1500, and experiment/change until you find a level you like.

cheers Malc.

Don’t forget the following option in falcon bms.cfg:
set g_bCanopyOpenForRampStarts 1 // Option to have the canopy open at mission start when you choose RAMP
-
cheers DM - already set to be open at Ramp.
-
Yes, but if you don’t like the sound of the canopy closing you can always set it to 0
-
Malc,
You are going to love this - take all the parameters you mentioned in your previous post 271/272 etc and set them to -9000, believe it or not the noise that’s still left is the one noise I am trying to lower in volume - the horrible screeching noise when the canopy is half way through its “close” cycle !!!
Any ideas ???

Canopy sounds has been made using those two sequences:
Sorry if you do not like it.
-
Hi Dee-Jay,
I like the sound, just a bit loud and curious as to why you the only volume you cant turn down is the screeeeeeeeeeeechy bit in the middle of the closing action?

Are you confusing the “screech” with the other sound you can hear? I like to think of it as a power cart or similar in the vicinity. All canopy sounds disappear for me -
-
Hi Malc,
Well if you set all the canopy sounds (see previous post) to -9000 then close the canopy what’s left is the screeching sound I am talking about - the engine is not running and its the same sound inside or out side a hanger so I am confused. My being confused is not an uncommon event ;0)
-
Malc,
am I the only one hearing this screeching ??? more test required at my end ….

I like the canopy sound, and I agree with the ticking before the JFS switches over - and watching real vids I was amazed that the ticking was there too… However what actually is causing the ticking? I cannot think of any relay that would.

I vote for the “JFS door”.
