wondering if we are missing something…i was holding short on 36 at kunsan and had my canopy open and noticed something seemed off when the other planes were landing. then it hit me . should we be hearing a chirp or chirps from the impact of the tires on touchdown when canopy is open? my example:@ 1:53 & again at 1:55 its kinda hard to hear so you may need to rewind a couple of times and use headphones

      again heard here

If you’re in an F-16, your canopy should not be open at the hold short. 😉

Having been on the ramp for a while, what you hear with civilian AC present is some turbine whining for an hour before they get going on occasion. Large commercial aircraft tend to spool up right near touchdown - some have those damn doors at the back of the turbine that kick their air forward, acting like a brake or reverse thrust mechanism. And the little GA aircraft I’ve seen (think Cessna) tend to be punching the throttle to taxi back. At the hanger you’d hear hammers, drills, wrenches getting thrown, bird clearers (those 12 gauge sized things), small engines, and ramp equipment if you could hear anything. I think the squeal you’re hoping for is a theatrical thing, reinforced in movies for dramatic effect. I’d like the aural input to be better from speakers - go to a live gun range while they’re open and then listen to it from a speaker - you’ll get what I mean. Anyone ever hear a Harrier hover in real life? My speakers can’t replicate that sand grain effect like reality can, while keeping other sound levels correct that is.

just wondering if you watched the vids in first post and listened carefully at the times stated…there’s definitely a touchdown chirp or two. but hearing a ground crew at work would be cool too when your in hangar.:p

                Justice,
I could not hear the tire “chirp” in any of your videos. I am sure is there. A tire going from 0 to landing speed is bound to make the sound. With that said lets think about this. If an open camera mike, with no filter can not clearly pic up that sound, how would you be able to do it in a close or open canopy, while wearing head phones ( in the helmet) with radios going off and over the sound of your own engine? I never heard the tires chirp on all the times I worked at the End Of Runway (EOR) inspecting the jets just before take off. I am sure the sound is there in RL but it is masked by all the other louder noises. If you want to add it to BMS I am sure many could help you.

guess your right…i didn’t think about it like that but that idea you mentioned about ground crew throwing tools around and probably communicating before startup would be a nice immersive touch to the ramp start. dont ya think!

Well unless thee is something wrong with the A/C there is no “throwing tools around” with the pilot there. The toolboxes are mostly shut up to not cause a FOD issue. The ground comms would add an immersion factor but unless there was a model of the ground crew it would be a little spooky to hear what you can’t see. 🙂

Nevermind that even though all of the pre-flight procedures can be duplicated in BMS 99% of pilots don’t do ALL of the procedures that a RL pilot would and thus would throw off any recorded dialog or logic in the ground comms procedures as well.
