F/A-18 HUD
-
After a few weeks of putzing around and not finding a fix, I want to throw myself on the mercy of the forum.
Using the default 60 deg FOV, I am unable to fit the altitude ladder within the frame of the HUD of the F/A-18. Additionally the display of the HUD values are very small and hard to read. Is there fix for this? I tried changing the FOV to 45 deg but it didn’t help. Everything in the F-16 looks fine.
I see some possibilities in the configuration editor but I am not sure which way to go and as I say, the F-16 is fine and I don’t want to dork that up.
Many thanks.

Possibility 1: Put the HUD page on your MFD.
Possibility 2: Click and hold your mouse wheel and drag your mouse around to adjust your POV position in the cockpit. Scroll the mouse wheel while holding it to move the view up or down.
Possibility 3: depending on your profile, press “L” to get a very small FOV so you should be able to read the symbology.

I have the same issue and from what I have found there is no fix at this time, perhaps at a later update.
If you have Track Ir or something similar this is what I do. Get centered on the HUD, then lean backwards from the monitor slightly (4"-5") keeping the view centered, click “center” for the Track Ir then sit forward to the normal distance. The info should now be within the HUD frame, may have to try a couple of times to get it right.
Unfortunately it doesn’t help with the font size as far as I can tell. If you have to hit re-center during the flight you’ll have to redo it as the view defaults back.

Thanks for your thought. None of these options worked.

I use OpenTrack and there is an option to add custom position after recenter, so i am using F18 with axis z: +1,50cm and problem si solved for me. TIR still lacks this option i think.

You have 2 solutions.
1. If you use TrackIR, you have to uncheck the Enable TrackIR Vector box in the advanced options of BMS. What this does is disables the X/Y/Z panning of the camera, and lets you manually adjust the eye position with the mouse.
Hold the middle mouse button, and drag the mouse to adjust the X & Y axis. Scroll the mouse wheel while pressing MMB to adjust the Z axis (up and down).2. If you leave the Enable TrackIR Vector box checked, then you have to lean back in your seat and then hit the key to recenter the TrackIR camera. When you lean back forward to your normal sitting position, the camera/eye point will be closer.
Either option displays the HUD data fully in the HUD glass. Adjusting the FOV will only zoom the camera to a wide angle “fish eye” lens or a narrow angle zoom. I find 70% FOV works best when adjusting the eyepoint using the mouse and the Vector box unchecked. The HUD text is big enough for me to read and it all fits on the glass.

For F-18C i changed to “hudfont 4” at Data\Art\ckptart\1799\3dckpit.dat. HUD become much better to read.
I only play single player so don´t know if affects online mode. -
Same view issue here, will try the suggestions u guys made. Looking at one of burners guides for the hornet:
It seems his hud fits much better into the frame than mine does. By default my speed and altitude are like covered by the huds side frame … in his video it looks much better, having lots of space between the side ends of the hud display and the frame …
