A question about padlocking
-
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there’s a button i can press on the keyboard that will show me who fired on me sort of a padlock view so i can turn around and CCIP it
-
P, I believe the best option is Padlocking. The BMS Manual p.125 discusses Padlocking, and Alt 4 is ,I believe, the callback for AG Padlock. On PL’s preference list any missile guiding on you will be Padlocked. The preference list _does_show any vehicle targeting you as a lower priority. I personally have never seen that happen

But it’s a nice one to implement in BMS right? like seeing who’s targeting you from the cockpit. sometimes its hard for me to see ground targets when the terrain is too dark and i want to use the ccip mode

This forum is full of stories at the O Club of how “I was gingerly flying along and WHOP!!, fire, bells and whistles. HUD was blank, MFDs are black, and the engine fire light is blinding me… Bartend, another Scotch for me and the boys!!!” Only to read an SA-14 was firmly inserted into ass… That being said head tracking, POV hat, or Padlock, SA is a part of flying… The world you are flying in is dynamic. You have to keep your head on a swivel.

It’s cool, yes, but might as well put a magic wand on your hand, you point it at a target, say “dead!” and it blows up. I don’t see it being added in BMS. Keeping and maintaining SA is part of the game. So is mutual support.

When you pass over an group of enemy ground contacts, and you’re within their range, the are ALL firing at you. What difference does it make which one actually hit you?
Defend yourself …. fly low --> fly fast. Use Flares. Jink. Don’t stay long.

You could make a quick ‘O-Fly’ markpoint, get some stand-off, search with FCR/TGP to refine a markpoint and make a CCIP run on that.

U have this already. It’s called ACMI.

and using that you can see which one actually hit you - as if that matters when your dead ;0)

yo guys i said “who fired at me not hit me” sometimes when im doing a pop up attack (like destroying a runway, 2 or 3 sam sites get me flying around in circles making hard for me to accomplish my mission … i EVADE them but when i finish my circle i get disoriented and can’t tell their position.

when i finish my circle i get disoriented and can’t tell their position.
Just use PPTs then and when you are finished evading head for the corresponding STPT… you’ll find them or they will find you, for sure.

Depends on where the firing platform is and where you’re facing. IIRC, you can have a TD box in the HUD and use that to create a markpoint. If the firing platform is outside that area, then all you really have is memorizing it’s location relative to where you are at that time and then finding it again after your evasive maneuvering. This is called maintaining SA.
A few questions though –-
1. What exactly are you going to attack with? Unless equipped with HARMs or maybe Mavericks, I don’t think you’re going to be in a position to really hurt the SAM site.
2. How exactly are you going to attack? Do you have a human wingman and can do hunter-killer tactics?
3. Why even attack? You’ve done your primary mission, you’ve evaded the SAMs fired at you, why not consider going RTB and fragging a new mission to deal with that SAM site properly? You can’t really attack a SAM site with guns and CBUs are useless unless the SAM battery has run out… and I’m not really too keen on baiting SAM sites with a full load of ground ordnance lest I break something on the jet. You will want something with a good standoff ability when attacking an active SAM site.
like destroying a runway, 2 or 3 sam sites get me flying around in circles making hard for me to accomplish my mission
If you’re attacking a runway and you have 2-3 SAM sites making you fly circles in the sky, you’ve fragged your mission wrong and it isn’t quite time to be attacking that runway yet.
