MP connection: comms, server
-
Just a little clarification if you know about this.
When we all connect to a player through COMMS screen, do we only connect IVC? Or more?
When we’re all connected to A, and B loads a campaign, is B’s computer handling a server with all the data (if the option serverhostsall is 1) ? or A? As it displays B’s server to be picked in the online tab, I’m not too sure anymore.
-
A can “host the connection” B is the “host of game” or game server.
Bs MP policies will be enforced.
B is hosting all the data. You got it right.
-
So if A is the host and has a bandwith setting of say 4000 kbit/s and B connected with 1024 kbit/s bandwidth, but B opens/hosts the game. Am I right to assume that there probably will be connection issues/anomalies due to a bandwidth bottleneck? Assuming two other players also connected with a bandwidth of 1024 kbit/s.

Yes, B is hosting all the data so all other clients have to exchange data with him… and 1024 is way under the needed bandwidth to correctly serve 3 more clients.
See this article for some more insight on how it all works. -
I think Lukrop knows about that, since he’s evoking these consequences. You clarified the fact B is the real host in that case (except for IVC), not A.

In case, my apologies in advance, Lorik, and no offense intended, but…
as far as I know, and if I’m correct most of all, that player hosting the game (B, if I see it right) should be also the IVC server.
In my little own experience, when hosting an online game of any kind, I consequently must open the IVC server in the main BMS screen before launching BMS. No IVC comms would run properly otherwise. With best regards,

No offense taken Jackal. I wasn’t questioning that :). You may have misunderstood my initial question, which is about who being the real host.
Even though many others differ about IVC and “game” server on the same computer, but it is a topic I won’t start.

Hi Jackal, no, this is not mandatory: you can host a game and use a different IVC server for comms, in my virtual squadron we regularly do this when playing in the dogfight arena (so to not have the server itself in game) and it works perfectly.
Obviously, all the players must point to the same IVC server (I bet some of your mates were pointing at you instead).
