Probe-and-drogue AR

Hi there, is there any mod adding probe-and-drogue tanker?
If not, could that be even possible that someone outside the Benchmark Sims team make that and put it in the game? -
No mod. Always hopeful it will be coming in 3 - 4 weeks.
Somewhere there is an old (?very old) video around of a possible drogue model.

I don’t remember the story behind this, but if I recall wasn’t there a reason it couldn’t just be done with a model and textures? Maybe it wouldn’t flap in the wind, but the game doesn’t care what the Boom looks like on the back of a tanker, and the refueling point is already modeled. Any modelers out there want to give it a whack?

I should think you’d also have to do some collisions modeling and refinement of the probe/basket contact zones to get it right. Would be very nice to have.

I could model that, but I got no idea how scripting and collisions work in BMS.

The pictures of drogue AR are somewhere in MOD-low res model forum post , good luck 150 pages (about in the middle) …
But it is doable, they . sorry, can’t remember who did it between buddy-refuel , was it SAAB viggen? yeah old birds
Maybe you could contact somebody from that guild of dark-artists … maybe CCCtw , don’t know’em personally but he did pretty big part of those skin-jobs. low res models … they look pretty nice for 512/1024 skins.
If ur up to task , you’re welcome to try … by all means. Ah models… they’re always in the need of artists

Yea, a lot of good old reference threads around the web were ruined when Photobucket changed their hosting rules in the last few months.
See more and more threads on forums with the Photobucket error. -
Under the current engine you’ll never get a true flapping in the wind, punch the bucket type drogue refuel, but as mentioned earlier–it shouldn’t be too terribly hard to rework a model and make it think the drogue is the boom. Might be funny to watch it move toward you when the AI tries to make the plug though.

There should be a way to disable the AI moving the probe I think. Well, I asked the creator of the mod for help, I will try adding the basket to the model, but I should ask the creator of vanilla KC135. Or just use some free model from the web.

I would assume the boom is attached to a DOF, you could just limit the range of movement for the DOF to keep it from moving. Then again, I’m not a models guy, so who knows.

Ahh… nickety pickety pick… just want to try refueling from KA-6D , nvm boom flapping in the wind… for start. (that means modifying .dat file , and we all like our necks , huh )
Otoh, you could try to simulate breaking the boom , for not so gentle flyers , approach. That … would be interesting

Also - don’t forget the whip that can be set up in the hose if one hits the basket too hard…in RL this should/can rip the probe off the jet (seen the aftermath of one of those), but I think that might also require a mod to the receiving aircraft model as well. I’d settle for a simple disconnect condition as the whip hits the probe as a compromise, at this point.

I spoke to the creator that posted low poly screenshots on the forum. They werent from BMS unfortunately
