FreeFalcon6 and BMS Falcon 4.43.3
-
I recently thought that I would like to try flying in Free Falcon 6. I downloaded it and installed it. I flew a few tactical engagements. I was not too impressed with the cockpit or the terrain. The avionics worked pretty well. I then wanted to get back to my Israel theater campaign in BMS. When I open BMS, I received the notice that I did not have the original Falcon 4.0 software loaded. I was shocked. I had to find my disk from my basket of old disks and try to reinstall it. It would not install. I tried multiple times and listed to the disk spin a few times and nothing else happened. I tried opening the disk files and clicking on the setup application. Still no-joy. I burned up several hours in this operation. Finally I had a new idea. Just copy all of the files into a folder named Microprose. That did not work. I ended by restoring my computer to an earlier date. This finally worked. Free Falcon 6 was removed.
In my opinion BMS Falcon 4.33.3 is unsurpassable.

I recently thought I’d like to install Windows 95 on my PC.
I didn’t like it. Horrible Interface, dreadful graphics and none only hardware worked except for my HOTAS.
But now my PC won’t boot back into Windows 7. Did a reinstall now all is fine. -
Just like playing old 2600 and NES games today. Completely ruins the fond memories of life between 8 and 16. LOL Don’t do it !!!

I’m actually really enjoying my SNES mini classic though. Good 16 bit games are still very playable if you ask me - 8 bit less so.

Without steering the ship into the rocks… SNES is still a great system :tjacked: Completely agree

Back to the original thread - I think FreeFalcon6 may have changed or overwritten the Falcon 4.0 registry keys, in particular the install location from where BMS is looking to find the original Falcon 4.0 executable. (I think).

Freefalcon uninstalls Microprose Falcon 4 if it finds it. It actually gives a warning about that when installing freefalcon. I did the same thing recently because I wanted to fly the Blackbird for fun.
