BMS keeps doing strange things to my thrustmaster warthog joystick
-
I’ve been trying for the life of me to get the joystick for the Thrustmaster Warthog to work in Falcon BMS, yet to no avail. Upon the first launch of the game, I set my advanced axes to the proper X and Y controls to pitch and roll. They appear to be working at first, giving me full function. As soon as I load into the ground ops flight to test my controls, my ailerons and elevators won’t move an inch, even after startup. I tried doing an FCS bit test, to no avail. When I go back to try and look at the settings, the axes are locked halfway in motion, and cannot be moved from those positions. Any help? I can’t even take off without these controls, and it’s really infuriating.

The dropdown menu in setup to choose controller should be set to your pitch-bank controller. I’ve seen a lot of people attempt to change it several times in the course of configuring controls. Don’t do this.
Given that the little gray ball moves in the square space in response to your joystick input that should be good enough. Give it a try in instant action and it should work.

Dropdown menu in setup? There is no drop down menu for the setup in game. Did you mean in the launcher? The gray ball moves, but it still doesn’t effect motion in-game. In the advanced controls, it’s telling me the correct answer that there is no movement.

No, he means here:
Make sure that is set to whatever device is your pitch/roll device. Don’t change it as you configure each axis.
-
Do you use TARGET Profile for the HOTAS ?
-
I do not use TARGET, heard some bad things about it.
-
Yeah, that has no effect whatsoever on my controls.

Take screenshots of and post here the:
1. Setup/Controls page showing your controller choice (like Agave showed)
2. Setup/Controls/AdvancedOptions/FlightControl sub pageAlso indicate:
3. Windows release (7, 8, 10)
4. BMS release (4.33 U3)Make sure the Warthog is the primary and preferred controller in Windows (but do not calibrate it there), calibration of the Warthog stick and throttle are done with TM utilities (which you can ask TM support for or find on the web)

Sorry, but BMS won’t let me take pictures of it, instead just shows black screen where the game should be.
I can however tell you that I have a controller choice of:
-Keyboard
-my thrustmaster warthog joystick and throttle
-and my T-rudder pedals.
In the advanced flight controls, I have the ability to enable all axes and have set the proper ones for the warthog setup. Both the x and y axes of the joystick are locked in the middle of motion, with the blue filling up half the bar. My throttle works fine, however, along with my rudder pedals. TrackIR also works fine too.
I’m using windows 7, BMS 4.33U3.
Sorry for no pictures but I hope this can help. -
The dropdown menu in the SETUP>CONTROLS section (keyboard, joystick, joystick2, etc.) is for selecting the primary controller. The primary controller must be set as the controller for pitch and bank axes. A common mistake is to set this primary controller as something else or change it multiple times during the setup process. When the throttle and rudder bars go gray, don’t panic and change the dropdown selection. Those items are sorted in the ADVANCED section.
I don’t know if you’re using TARGET’s virtual controller in any way. If you are then your controller list should include the virtual device and missing one or both of the natural devices (depending on the script). Provided your joystick axes are functioning as seen in Windows (USB Game Controller properties) and they are assigned but not working (gray ball no move) in BMS I’m quite short on ideas.

I’ve got the Warthog HOTAS and throttle and I feel your pain. Go to Morphine’s set up for the Warthog and try it out, its the best way to get you up and running quickly. Get familiar with his setup first before you dissect it and start modifying things to suit yourself. About the only thing I’ve altered in his profile is using the trim switch to move the V/STOL controls. Other than that its the best I’ve seen so far. You can also run the WT HOTAS in DX mode, eliminating the need for any additional software. You’ll lose the coolie hat on the throttle, but otherwise this setup works great out of the box. You can then use Kolbe’s excellent key file generator to create a very decent default setup.
All the best, Uwe
