HUD Color Change
-
Due to an eye condition, I have trouble with the default HUD color in 4.33. Changing the brightness helps a tad, but not enough to keep me from straining to see the screen. Is there a way to change the actual color of the HUD?
Thanks!

I believe WDP allows you to use green to startup for the HUD. Also, ICE’s Helios profile has a color button to change colors, but I find it a bit wacky to use.

Depends on your keyfile, but Alt-H by default.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated.

Depends which one you’re using. One button just cycles between green and white –- essentially pressing the callback multiple times to get to those colors. There’s also a hidden button that only presses the callback once-per-button-press. This is “hidden” on the lower-right ICP screw… under the CONT wheel.

What about changing the default color to one of your liking? I looked through the config file but if it is there, I missed it.

A lot of people criticize the ability to change HUD color as “unrealistic”. But most of us don’t measure up to the physical standards of RL fighter pilots. Unlike fighter pilots, many of us have some degree of color blindness or other visual anomaly. Also, I doubt that most monitors faithfully represent the gamma/saturation/etc. that precisely represents real life.
For these reasons, I really wish that the BMS devs would allow players to select a default HUD color that works best for them. We used to be able to do that.

Workarounds using pink HUD is not an acceptable solution. A bit more contrast is.
Even RL pilots with perfect vision and big muscles do not always perfectly read their HUD depending on conditions. Real life isn’t perfect either.
