Bms crashes on launch
-
Hi I just got a speedlink Phantom Hawk joystick and the bms program crashes when I try to launch it (works fine with other progs), any idea as to why this is happening , it’s a force feedback joy.
Thanks in advance

I’m sure it’s just me, but I’m not real sure what you mean. Are you saying it works with other hardware, but with the new stick it crashes when launching the program? Or do you mean it crashes when trying to go into 3D.
What were you using before?
If the program launches with the stick unplugged, have you tried plugging in the stick after launching and tried to assign the controller in the setup page? If you can get into setup it should look like the attached photos only it should have a selection for your stick in the dropdown menu of the highlighted part of the second photo…
It could also be a defective stick. I think they are on par with a Logitech Extreme 3D.
Just a thought as I’m not going on much here.
BTW, you might want to throw out some system specs. You will get a lot more help here if you give as much info as possible.

The program launches fine with the stick unplugged and with the old joystick. The new joystick works fine with all the other games I have , but when I try to launch BMS with the new joystick connected the program crashes. I started BMS with joystick unplugged and then plugged it in but it dosn’t show in the drop down menu.

Sounds like the program doesn’t recognize the hardware. Maybe it needs to be plugged in when starting. I assume you have loaded the drivers for the stick.
Maybe it’s a boot order problem. Can’t say for sure. What was the old stick again?

in your config folder are a couple of files that store your axismapping and available devices. also there are temp copies of these files. maybe some of them are writeprotected? dont know if this causes crashes on startup but its something you could look at. (I know that some of these files are actually udated when exiting bms, not starting it.)
axismapping.dat
axismapping_tmp.dat
DeviceDefaults.txt
DeviceSorting.txt
joystick.cal
joystick_tmp.cal -
Probably force feedback related.
I did a search for “speedlink force feedback” and this is one thread I found: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?26122-SpeedLink-Black-Widow-flightstik-cause-BMS-4-33-crash&highlight=speedlink+force+feedback
