Config Editor
-
Need some help.
I was having an issue after install with my config editor not opening from the splash screen. I have now done a complete fresh install of BMS, did not copy over any old config files, made an exclusion for it in my antivirus and it still wont open! Also literally every other open under the splash screen works, with the exception of “configuration”.
I have also tried running the .exe file directly from the folder and as administrator with no luck! Any ideas?
Thanks!
Edit: I have rebooted into safe mode and the config editor works then! So what could be causing it not to work normally? I have also tried turning off autoprotect in Norton and that still doesn’t work.

I’ve never heard of this issue, but I wonder if you’re on the right track with Norton. Maybe disable it completely and try again?
You can of course just edit the falcon bms.cfg file in your \User\Config folder directly with a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++ (explanation of the Config options is in the Appendix at the back of the BMS-Manual), but there is obviously an underlying issue here that could potentially cause other issues down the road.

I also have this issue every time I reinstall BMS 4.33 and patches up to 4, I can get the configuration to work through launcher first time and then never again. It points to my bms folder f4patcher folder but I can’t see any patches to adjust hardware video etc.

I also have this problem. Did clean install with all the patches up to U5 at one go. Configuration starts only when giving admin rights to launcher. I also tried to start Config.exe from Win10 command line without any admin rights and it didn’t start first. However when giving it some parameter (anything) like “Config.exe -” or “Config.exe /?” then it does start up fine. I wonder why that is.

And all of a sudden a never heard of it has 3 reports and unknown number of not reported.

Win10 here at least. Did some more testing. As a workaround I ultimately ended up setting “Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)” compatibility mode on for Config.exe in Falcon BMS directory. That, unlike WinXP compatibility mode, doesn’t require admin rights. Starting configuration from the main Falcon launcher works now. Tried Win7 and Win8 compatibility modes too but those do not work.

For the record, I also run Windows 10 Home (since before 4.33.2) but have had zero issues launching Config.exe normally, and I use it often when helping new pilots. My BMS install is not on the
drive, if that note helps. (SimShaker software gives me issues now and then, but Andre is very responsive in fixing/pushing fixes to beta branch)
