I’m having this ussue where I can talk to AWACS or my wingman. I can talk to my element without any problems though and I can hear both AWACS and my wingman.

      I checked/have/tried the following:
-UHF and VHF frequencies are default
-UHF is set to preset 1
      -VHF set to preset 6
-Audio panel is properly set according to the manual
-I tried manually setting the AWACS frequency(UHF) as specified by the briefing to “Check in” and then change to “Tactical” but it did not work
-I tried stepping through all the presets on VHF and UHF trying to tell my wingman “Weapons free”
-Did the same as above for AWACS trying to “Check In” and then trying to request a “Picture”
-Tried changing the configuration to not make AWACS a requirement for missions
-Tried in the default Korea camping((Iron Fortress) and in Balkans
-I can hear my wingman (airborne, in position, hounddog, ect) and AWACS(threats, enemy launch, ordering me to engage, etc). I can also hear everything on proximity.
-I can talk to my element without any problems

I dont know what else to do and I dont know if I’m encountering a bug or if its something that I’m doing wrong.

      Any help is appreciated. Thanks

are you “talking” to your wingman using the key board - assigned HOTAS buttons - Voice activated command software?

I’m using the default shortcuts to open the menu with commands. No external software.

Edit: Also, I dont know if its related or not but I cant open the “Comms” menu thats right next to Tactical Reference on the campaign menu.

In setup > controllers, confirm that your keyfile is properly responding to the command keys: Q,W,E,R etc.

When I press the assigned command keys the small box with available commands shows up. So I’m guessing it is properly responding to my input.

Should be able to do this. I think it’s a clue. Make sure no security software running on your machine is set to interfere with pop ups. If you find that to be the case, you could test it and turn it back on if not solved.
I knew a guy who had a problem similar to this, but was not Falcon. But still similar in that the pop up would not show at all in an app. Really weird because the pop-up for the commands is working. But why not check it out anyway.

I have no security software running at all. Last week I also reinstalled windows and I still had the same issue.

Look at Control Panel>Network and Internet>Internet Options (Internet Properties)>Privacy>Pop-up Blocker. That was what stopped a friend of mine. I run with it unchecked (off) on my machine full time.

I don’t know what is stopping you, just taking a long shot here. If I think of anything I’ll let ya know.

You have your UHF and VHF channels inverted. You should be on UHF 6 and VHF 1. If you want to check in with AWACS try UHF 13.

Weapons Free won’t cause you wing element to engage freely unless they spot something first. Typical your wing will radio and say “I have a good angle on him” to which you reply, “weapons free”. He should respond “wilco”. At which point your wing will peal off and target what they have spotted.

If you still can’t make contact re-verify your Freq’s match the default channels. See page 93 of the “BMS manual”, not the F-16 manuals, its located in your docs folder in the BMS install.

I tried this but it still did not work.

I made sure that there was an AWACS flight in the air and I can confirm it because I can hear them. Then I checked all me frequencies and set them as they appear in the manual. Then I set UHF to 13 and VHF to 1 but still nothing happens. I still cant get a picture on UHF 6 either.

I know that I can only use weapons free when they ask for it but my wingman still does not respond to any of the formation commands either. The “Flight” and “Element” commands work though. Tanker and Tower work as well(as long as its set properly).

Am I supposed to do something with the comms switch or are those little command windows independent of it? When I press them I hear a click and either UHF or VHF light up on the DED

It maybe realted to your sound output setup, I have heard of similar issues. Or maybe the in game sound settings. Someone over here had a similar problem. http://falcon-online.org/forum/index.php?topic=1634.0

Also are you ramp starting or joining from the flight mid air?

I checked my configuration but its still not working.

Its the same whether I start the plane myself, taxiway, ramp or in the air.

                              Just a couple of idea’s:

Test wingman’s willingness to obey early in flight. Give him go trail immediately after takeoff.

Alternatively, If he’s not following commands in combat scenario, give him rejoin and a little time then reissue the command your want for him.

Also can test with you as element lead. That’s makes 4 your wingman. See if he responds to wingman command.

None of these things seemed to work.

I set up a small TE with 4 F-16 and 4 Mig-29 and I tested all the suggestions but I’m still not hearing my own voice or reply and my wingman does not do anything.

“I’m still not hearing my own voice” - set up - sounds - player voice - activated or not activated ?

Yes it is because when I talk to the tower/tanker/element I can hear myself in the voice I select giving the commands and then I hear the expected reply.

I have seen this a few times and if I remember it was usually something wrong with the program: key file, keyboard language, audio device and not regarding F-16 procedure (audio levels, frequencies, etc.)

First debug step I would check is to turn on subtitles to see if messages are received at all without a requirement for an audio message to be played on a speaker and heard with human ears.

Next I would check functionality of outgoing commands regardless of audio or message received. Does wingman close up formation distance when commanded? I have seen cases of radio problems where no message was heard but wingman responded to this command. Also radio tower add/remove chocks is an interesting test.

The issue is only when I’m trying to communicate with my wingman or with AWACS. Everything else works fine. When I contact my element, the tanker or the tower they all work properly. I see the text messages and I hear voices.

Only when I contact my wingman directly with the “wingman commands” window or awacs with the “AWACS commands” window I have the problem.

If I contact my element and ask for status, they will reply with the status
                                          https://imgur.com/a/ZX09Z

If I contact the flight and ask for status, they all reply with status:
                                          https://imgur.com/a/8TJ1e

However if I contact my wingman and ask him for status there is nothing. No text, no communication and no response.

If I tell me wingman to go trail nothing happens. But if I tell me element to go trail they will do it and after they are formed up I get “in position” from them.

If I tell the flight to go diamond they will do it and I get a reply from them
                                          https://imgur.com/a/ww2Ir

From AWACS I get no replies at all, no matter how close, how far, what mission, radio, plane or campaign. I can see the text and hear them doing their thing(threats, enemy launches, instructions, etc) but If I contact them for any reason nothing happens. Nothing happens when I “check in” on U13 or when I ask for something on U6.

When I first started the thread I was on 4.33.1 and now I’m on 4.33.3 but its still the same.

Check in is for getting AG target assignment for on-call CAS from AWACS/FAC. It does nothing in the general sortie.

Element yes, wingman no is a very narrow. T R E menus are working but W & Q not? It sounds like a problem issueing commands but only from certain pages. Can you temporarily try a default unedited .key file? Try editing the keys from Q/W to something else? What languages are in use on your system?

You can try setting g_bAllowAICommsDrop g_bAllowAICommsDrop_NoRadioPower both to 0 as indicated in BMS Manual p. 242 as a test.

Section 7.6.3. is also worth a read to understand better how the radio message filtering system works.
