When do you run Mav and TGP handoff process?
-
Hi!
I want to use handoff mode during my sorties.
But I am not sure when I run Mav and TGP handoff process and which object I have to target.
Which target I have to use for this handoff process while flying? or ramp start?
We can use a battle ship while playing MISSION 13: AGM-65 MAVERICKS. But what to use while campaign sorties? -
run the handoff operation after take off and find a building for it

I set a target steerpoint on a building close to one of your way points. Select that target, boresight, go back to navigate point. Easy, breezy…

I am personally finding a town about 30nm before target on the map, find some building that is easy to recognize and save it as target steerpoint.
Then when enroute to target simply lock it on in point mode, quickly switch SOI to MAV to avoid BSGT failure message, drop cover, lock it on MAV and press BSGT, switch to second station, drop cover, lock and press BSGT again. It is better to do BSGT enroute than on ramp. It is much easier to find some BSGT target when you are in air, also when you do it enroute you don’t need any extra time spent on boresighting as you do it when flying to the target. It is quick process when you get used to it.

army bases are good. the low barracks buildings in particular seem to work well.
they are everywhere in KTO, especially near the DMZ.

30nm is a cutting it a little late/close? In Korea, that’d put you over the DMZ/FLOT in many missions. In SP, I like to do it sooner than that, certainly before Push etc.

I am flying ITO where it works fine. When you get used to it BSGT is quick process. The later you plan to do it, the later you turn EO power, the more remaining EO time you have when you fight.

Another option is to handoff the missiles while you are still on the ground. It’s the same procedure with tow differences, (1) position GND JETT switch to ENABLE (2) you need to place near the airfield a battalion with sharp edge vehicles. When the procedure is done you can power off the missiles to save the batteries and power on again before the IP for example.

Drop cover - Blow the caps - uncage the seeker head

Sometimes I bsgt when delivering from full loaded LAU-88, what you would rarely see irl. When I bsgt such stations and handoff I can ( sometimes, not always) deliver all 6 Mavs in one run befor turning away. but a typical loadout irl would be 2 Mavs. I see really no need for bsgt the stations just because you can. I watch the pod on the right MFD while I slew the seekers on the left. My targets are always locked clear before I have a 100% DLZ position, so a handoff process would even waste my time, when my targets are clearly identified via pod picture compared to my Mav picture. With two targets I even ripple the two Mavs, so don’t have pain with bsgt and handoff, just play the piano and deliver the old way.

Thanks for your description Mackisoft. Can you explain the part about “quickly switch SOI to Mav mode to avoid BSGT failure message”? I’m doing something wrong because I still get BSGT failure messages all over the place
Appreciate your help!

You need to do DMS down in order to switch SOI between 2 MFD. In this case you need TGP at one and WPN on another. Then when you are ready to go (covers are blown and you see video from seeker) you go to TGP and lock target in point mode. Then you quickly press DMS down to switch SOI to WPN and then lock the target and press BSGT.
If you are quick enough (switch SOI immediatelly after locking target in point mode on TGP) you hopefully avoid failed handoff warning. -
Bull
Your getting Bore Sight failures because ( I suspect) you are trying to bore sight while the MAV seeker head is out of range.
TGP lock up building you intend to bore sight on at <23 miles out - then switch on (via SMS) the MAV and uncage then with SOI to MAV WPN page - DO NOT LOCK UP YET - when the firing solution bracket appears on the WPN page ( about 15 miles) then lock up the same building or, if its a large building, the same part of the same building that you locked up in the TGP - NOW TMS UP that way you will not - subject to weather/visibility issues - get AV faults.
The same goes with “hand off” wait until the firing solution bracket appears in the WPN MFD before you hand off.
There are other ways of doing it but this works for me ;0)

I think that as things are described in some posts, there is a confusión between boresighting and handoff which are diferent procedures.- I previously boresight all my Mavs stations, it can be done even at ground in some cases, that procedure only syncronises the TGP LOS with the Mav sensors, which generally aim to some lightly diferent places, and with that procedure completed you can then proceed to lock and handoff once the targets are on range.-

Easier said than done.
Lots of things are, in life. I guess it doesnt help that in BMS, you can only lock a maverick onto something it can recognise as a Target.

In order not to get any failures in the handoff procedure simply you must not be in wpn page while you obtain point track with the tgp.
For example: Let’s say that you want to handoff over a ship. We assume that the missiles are powered on and the video is enabled for the 2 stations (3,7). The tgp can obtain point track within 25nm. So you see the ship with the pod and you are within 25nm. The key is when you hit tms up to obtain point track the other mfd must not be at wpn page.
When range is dropped within 15nm you switch to wpn page (you have already a point track at the tgp), you hit tms up for the ship, press bgsht OSB, select the other station (msl step), tms up for the ship and then press bgshtNow in order to fire you must be within 15nm to get point track. If you want to get point track earlier select any other page except wpn and when you are in range (15nm) select wpn page and hit tms up at tgp to get a new point track and the target will be sended at the mavs.
