JAS-39 Gripen
-
Hey there people.
I wanted to make it and i finaly initiated the works on Jas-39 Gripen. Still its in very basic form but trying to do my best. The Work its not gonna be fast as i wanna make it as much as detailed as i can and i have to finish others also that now are in 99% like my F-5 and other edited/ported models.
This time im not using any model as reference at all (there isnt much out there anyway, only the simple model of Nordic Theater) but loads of photos and various blueprints (for the general shape and then go on with only photos).
Bear with me then and whatever references you have are apriciated and any help also is welcome!I wanna thank also Repvez for sharing with me his .max scene of a gripen witch some things are gonna be usefull to my model and also why not his work be the lower lod in the release when its gonna be ready. For sure im gonna work a bit his model as well
Thanks a lot!

Good choice… I have a couple of hours in its rl sim, nice bird and systems.
Some hires plans from web, nothing fancy:

Great stuff…I LOVE the Gripen!!!

http://oi57.tinypic.com/2iad3id.jpgI made a gripen model.
If you want this I can send it, but you have to do some touch on it . It isn’t DOF and UVW . I just tried . -

Hey Manos,
any chance to get this within BMS specs?
Cheers

Thats my goal… I hope yes… But i know for sure i wanna make it detailed so for its gonna be also a high poly model But ill try my best to keep it within the bms specs.

Hey, thank you for this Gripen, I like this plane. Just a technical question, you’re using FFD to modify the model mesh ?

Havent test it this way yet. Most of the work is done with boolean and cut-weld. As i did in f5 but F5 lines and shape is more simple than Gripen. Also pre-making part of the shape… But still checking various things to find the best!
Have in mind that still im learning a lot of things in 3ds max. I know how to work in a completely different program. Coming from Autocad working to this kind of things is mindblowing for me even to get the 50-60% of the shape right! lol -
Okay, I was asking because I saw the FFD tab selected on your 3DSMax so I was wondering about it. Thank you for your answer.
I understand your struggle by coming from a parametrized CAD software ahah, but you seem to be doing well on Max now ! -

I understand your struggle by coming from a parametrized CAD software ahah, but you seem to be doing well on Max now !Really? I think editable poly tab is selected but ok! Thanks for your kind words. I wouldnt say that i struggle, but definatelly i learning a lot of stuff on the way and finding solutions around in the net, and that might make me re-do things as i might find a better way. As i did with F-5. First attempt was ok but not what i wanted then i re did the whole thing. Though it took me a lot shorter time re doing it cause i allready learned by my mistakes! For example now in the Gripen im trying to find the best way to get the shape of the merging of the wing with the fuselage as best as i can without leaving too big corners as in the real thing is smooth… Eventually ill get it right i guess…
-
Just a test export as i always do to check how it looks in ogglod… Its ok but something i dont like in the merging of the wing with the fuselage though in the 1st post picture is even more off. I think it needs to be a bit more smooth, but who am i to say? Might be not so wrong anyway, in many photos you can see a “line” there but the thing is i think in the model here needs to be a bit more up on height but then i dont like it either
it seems too much to my eyes…
Suggestions people?
Edit: sometimes it is needed to work (as i learn on the way) as Radium said in an other thread with single polygons. I do lately a lot, correcting things or even make new where they have to be and they are not. Sometimes even with vertexes to 100% align something with something else… Tiresome but exciting at the same time

Looks real nice so far!

Here you can see how the fuselage what a slender
-
I managed to fix the smoothness between the wing and the fuselage, I had to work in faces and vertexes individually but it seems ok to my eye at least. Theres no connection line anymore between them. Still a lot to do….
-
Some more details added… actually part of the splitterplates and the intake. As i said the progress is gonna be kinda slow. I wanna be detailed in every aspect i can also i finishing up other projects so stick around…

Looking good!!!
