      Hi Folks,

Just learning the ropes following some of the great tutorials on YouTube…

Working on using the TPG pod to drop laser guided bombs…

One thing I am missing is how do you SLEW the cursor around on the video screen… The video went into depth on how to zoom in and out - - - but - - - not up/down/left/right… I searched the internet and it alluded to “TMS Up” - which I am clueless on…

      Any guidance - much appreciated…

      Regards,
      Scott

To slew a sensor it must be SOI. For all the sensors that can be slewed: RWS, ACM, HAD, TGP, DTOS, etc. there is only one slew control. So to slew a sensor it must be selected as “sensor of interest” (SOI) and it can be controlled and the rest have to wait. The first step to using the TGP will be to understand how to recognize if a display is SOI (box outline around MFD or * on HUD) and how to change which display is SOI (DMS forward or aft).

Practice “bouncing” the SOI back and forth between MFD for example with FCR on left and HSD on right using DMS aft. It won’t bounce if one display can’t be slewed (like SMS or FLCS).

Once you get TGP on MFD and set as SOI, now you can control it. DMS switch will zoom in or out. Pinky will change between WFOV and NFOV etc. But perhaps even then you can’t slew it freely. This is because by default the TGP is slaved to FCR. You can’t move TGP directly but if you move FCR you see TGP follows. To slew TGP not slaved you need to make it track autonomously. It is easy to do, pressing TMS forward (up, same thing) will break slaving and you can now slew in INR/AREA/POINT mode.

As for what is DMS, TMS, CMS, etc. these are the names of switches on the F-16 controls. The “MS” stands for management switch. TMS is target, DMS is data, CMS is countermeasures. They are 4-way “hat” switches so they have forward (up), right, left, and aft (down) presses. Here is a picture: http://falcon4.wdfiles.com/local–files/avionics%3Ahotas/stick.jpg

          Hi Frederf,

Thanks so much for the detailed and extremely well written response… I think I’ve got all that you said… The one piece that I am missing - is when mapping my joystick for a similar setup - as per your drawing - which functions in the controller setup page matches TMS Up - TMS Down - TMS Left - and - TMS Right ? I couldn’t seem to find any labels with TMS in them ?

          Regards,
          Scott

            Hi Frederf,

Hah - please disregard my last - it was late and I must have skipped over the control setting - I found it - listed under HOTAS… Thanks again…

            Regards,
            Scott
