im kinda getting sick of the x52. The actual layout is great but i keep having problems with the software bugging out on me.

Plus I figure the CH stick is a replica of the F16 one so thats a bonus.

6+ years using CH fighterstick and Prothrottle. Precise as the first day. Never, ever, not one flight in 6 years have I had problems with the software/programing.

Never had Saitek sticks though, so I cannot personally compare, but I am pretty sure they are a big upgrade over Saitek.

Just one note on the Fighterstick. When you first get it maybe you feel it disappoingtly soft, specially if you compare to Cougar/Warthog, but once you get use to it, the extra quality is there and you will notice.

        Cheers

The CH software is not what it once was either - there are issues with joystick not working after resume from sleep, even BSOD from the driver. I find CH is quite a bite behind the curve by now. The hardware is good albeit not with hall sensors.

CH is amazing, the software is awesome once you learn how to use it and the product will not let you down. I had CH for 10 years and only recently switched to a Warthog because the price was good, I also bought a uber modded Cougar. I really haven’t had a lot of time to fly with them. The time I have used the Warthog all I can say is that it’s amazing, I have to see how it holds up over time.

I’ve flown hundreds of hours over the multiple years I’ve owned my WH setup and have never had a problem. Sure you will find some people that have problems and obviously those with problems will be a lot more vocal about the WH than the people who have zero problems. 🙂

I agree, when things are going good people don’t say much, it’s only when problems start happening when the neg things come out.

Do the Ch throttles have rotary dials like the x52?

No they don’t…unless you buy a CH fraken-potato. I had one and used it for a few years, it was awesome, but I wanted something different and found a great deal on the warthog.

Hmm, thats a big strike against for me. But I am torn since Saitek has been mostly problems since day one. Grrr.

I didn’t like it either, but it works great and I flew without rotaries with my old CH and it worked just fine.

I think Cali has nailed it. I’m another 10 year veteran of CH and would probably describe ot as just “Robust”.
It has all the buttons in the right places, except for those wanting a “fraken-potato” . ……I still remember when that project came too fruitation on the CH forums.

Back in the day when I was looking and reading as many HOTAS reviews as I could Yahoo, I was also aware of script editor programming, so that thinned the list for me.

Finally, although the Cougar was at the top of the list I also had a budget, I mean a wife. So I couldn’t keep modding and hiding receipts! The Cougar, not the wife, would have to wait !
So long story short, I bought CH. I enjoy the script editor and all the functional options it has to offer. With CH script, you can program 4 layers of commands, but the Shift function doubles that again. So you end up with a ridiculous amount of commands at your finger tips if that’s your thing.

                                Just my 2 cents.

I’m having the same issue with my X52. The stick itself is decent enough but the software gives me headaches…

I personally would like to switch to the Cougar for immersion purposes. The only thing holding me back is the price, I cannot justify to pay €350+ for a relative small upgrade.

saitek is hands down the most annoying of the bunch. CH software sounds solid, but i like the feel and action of the thrustmaster WH…just wish i didnt have to deal with T.A.R.G.E.T.

I would agree …. until I discovered the bliss that is DX programming direct to BMS. ZERO ‘software’ problems since then and very, very good HOTAS functionality. I recommend to anyone using an X52/52 Pro to drop the MadCatz/Saitek programming and change to DX.

If you follow Kolbe’s instructions (here: C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\User\Joystick\Generic\Kolbe\BMS-DX-Generator 1_6.xls ) it really is easier than it first looks … much easier.

the DX did help a lot. i still had problems, but narrowed down to possible system issues with those. (getting ready to pass that x52 on to a new pilot in need, btw)

I would still have my CH if it was built like the cougar or warthog. Although the plastic is strong, I didn’t like the tactical feel of the buttons. I loved CH manager, it’s the best programming software I believe. I love the feel of my cougar and warthog, not a big fan of TARGET so far. I really hate that I couldn’t get the CH guts into a cougar or warthog.

I use DX mappings, and the only reason I bring up the Saitek control panel is that is the only way I can use the shifted function. I keep it off of one of my screens, and the DX does all the mappings.
