Step By Step Guide to the update "dance"
-
Hello. NEWB question from someone who is primarily a Mac user. Is there anyone who can provide some additional guidance on exactly how to install updates? I don’t want to screw things up. Also new to using torrent. I would appreciate some help. Thanks!

Have you looked here? https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?31312-Starting-with-Falcon-4-BMS-4-33-Update-3
Thanks! I figured it out and this helps too! Getting the “Running BMS setup program now…” message. Fingers crossed.

Dance?
Well I used this term also but now “dance” is just one step simple dance.
In the old days a dance install or update was about a full cluttered page of tenths of things to do…
Now for me the dance is mostly squadron settings and apps to be installed and figured out.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Nupe2, how did you find the install guide? Any comments and criticisms appreciated! I hope the guide helped!

Ice, I like the Guide and I’m taking advantage of some downtime to try again on the updates(I’ve seemed stuck at Build 15227), but am having problems. The guide seems very straight forward, but I could never get the updates to show up in the Installer. Just the base.
After some finagling, I got the 3 update bsf’s in the same /…setup/…setup/data as the base bsf’s. Unfortuantely, now I get “setup.cfg is missing”.
The data folder with the bsf’s does have a 1010 byte setup.cfg.
I will admit that at this point I’m wondering how something so seemly simple…isn’t -
My usual recommendation is the simplest –-- wipe out everything you have and start from scratch in terms of the installer. If you want to, back up your current copy of the game and uninstall that as well. We can spend the next few days back-and-forth trying to figure out which step you’ve missed or messed up… or you can start from scratch and if you follow the instructions faithfully, you may well be up-and-running within the hour.
So start again and tell me which step you are getting different results compared to what the guide is telling you that you should be seeing.

Thanks, Ice. I have been considering that, except for 2 things. First, I have some skins and such and don’t really want to do it all over again. And, to this point being “behind” hasn’t affected my enjoyment of BMS. As I wrote earlier, I just happen to have some time on my hands at the moment. At some point I realize I’m probably going to bite the bullet.
If only for my own education, where is the required setup.exe.? In reading back over the U2-4 announcements, it says the original config file is not changed. Ok, and since the base is running it has to be there somewhere, right? Inquiring minds (well, mind) want to know. I just tried U2 again, and this is what I got

And just for grins, this is what my Setup looks like
And one more dance step needed…If I did decide to delete and reinstall, don’t I need the “setup manager”(where you add updates or remove)? I can’t get into that , because of the aforementioned “setup cfg missing”? -
1. Copy your current files over to some other location –- essentially, make a backup.
2. Delete all your installed files — uninstall Falcon, delete the folder where it was installed.
3. Follow my guide as faithfully as you can. Download new copies of the files as well…. your old files may have been corrupted or, as in one instance here, the guy had a pre-Update1 base installer. So to get issues like that out of the way, download everything from scratch, and follow the guide.Tell me where you get stuck, but hopefully, everything should be smooth sailing for you. Once you’ve established that everything works, then you can slowly copy your mods/skins back in.
Good luck!!
