It is ‘U’ depending on what keyfile you’re using.

In other words if you’re using Keystrokes.key, it is ‘U’. If you’re using BMS.key it’s something else. If you’re using a customized keyfile …. :dunno:.

          Agree w/ Agave Blue.

Also (since this is your first post here) if you were using a different version of Falcon (i.e. F4, FF, or F4AF) be aware that in BMS you need to power up the seeker head on the SMS page of the MFD. After the warm up time and the seeker head becomes active, you will then be able to uncage the seeker head. Let us know if you get this sorted or need more help.

            FYI:

BMS.key and Keystrokes.key keybaord maps/layouts can be found in your docs folder …. C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals .

When i go to set-up in the game the “u” key has a different assignment. The “u” key is assigned to some kind of view and after the warm up phrase i would press the “U” on the key board and nothing happens. Next i will try using the flight stick profile to assign the “U” command.

There’s your answer. "The “u” key is assigned to some kind of view "

What key file are you using?

I’m guessing that BMS.key is loaded and you’re used to using Keystrokes.key.

In the sim, go to SETUP–>CONTROLLERS. Look above the list of commands/assignments. It says, “Current Keyfile”. What is the name of that keyfile?

One will not be happy until they master their own keyfile. Neither default file has all the commands that are needed to be “truely” happy and responsive in a fight. Spend some time with the key files given, explore your BMS installation folders and read some of the files included within the folder named Kolbe. I’ve been plugging away at this for about a year now and still I find more I need to figure out. Looking at the user interface for the setup/controls section is a good sign, you understand to look there! That is important too! Practice will make it easier, reading the manuals you have in the BMS 4.32 folder will make things easier, looking up information will make it easier, and asking questions when you can’t find the answer from the before mentioned sources will certainly help too.

If you have a decent internet connection and time available a virtual squadron or community tutorial videos can help you learn things - though you may learn some other habbits from them too. If you have to or insist on going it alone without those helping guides, trial and error will be your master. For videos try you-tube and look for Krause or BMS tutorials. Check Arty’s sticky for virtual wings and squadrons at the top of the general discussion page.

“Much learning there is to be had, padewon!”

or if you use the dogfight override mode the seeker will go active automatically, but you should still uncage…just thought i’d add.

lol whoops…i forgot you have to uncage Mavs too. I pretty much never use the Mavs (i prefer paveways) so i was just assuming/misreading any uncaging was for the AIM-9.

…or i mean ya, Mavs are GREAT for dogfights, what’s the problem 13crusader? 😉

Actually I heard that you could fire a Mav (RL, dont know in game) on a chopper going less than 60 kts.

                            So if you find a Mi24 a bit feisty… why not ? 😉

They tried that in Gulf 1 and couldn’t get the Mav to lock on the chopper. As a result the A10 scored a gun kill. The most unusual kill in Gulf 1 has to be the Mil-8 that was killed when a 2000lb LGB was dropped through its rotor disc (although a near miss would have had the same effect).
