**OPERATION “KRITIKI ELPIDA” (“Hope of Crete”)A fictional mini campaign for Falcon BMS 4.33U5
Ikaros Theater 4.1.1 Overview**
The conflict in the eastern Mediterranean, on the border between Europe and Asia, has been simmering for some time now. Several of the smaller Blueland islands have already been invaded by Redland forces and thus far the United Nations (UN) have turned a blind eye.
This laissez-faire approach has only served to encourage Redland to try to seize the jewel in the crown: the strategically important island of Crete.
While there hasn’t been an all-out war declared officially yet, only mostly local skirmishes with (thankfully) few casualties, things are about to change rather soon now with a massive attempt underway of Redland ground forces aiming towards the south-eastern sea.
Said to be the birthplace of European civilization with high-culture Minoan settlements reaching as far back as 3,000 years BC, Crete’s strategic position commanding the southern Mediterranean and the Libyan Sea, and quite naturally, its eternal sunshine and great local beverages are simply too tempting to go unnoticed for long whenever some sort of power vacuum emerges.
At the centre of countless struggles in the past, with different empires tugging and tearing at it from east, west, north and south, “Nisi Kriti”” will find itself the centerpiece of yet another one. You’re going to be in the very midst of it flying your F-16-C52+CFT Viper¹ from Souda Airbase (LGSA) attempting to stop the invading forces who have, according to intel, already managed to set up a major bridgehead near Sitia situated in the east of the island.
Some Redland forces are also reported to be making another attempt on the island from the South, so you’d better be on a constant lookout patrolling the southern mountain ranges near Plakias for surprise offensives from enemy ground forces.
Redland forces aim to occupy as much of Crete as they can before UN peacekeeping forces arrive and a ceasefire is declared. The historical and administrative capital of Heraklion city is their main target.
Blueland ground forces on Crete are few and of very low morale: You’ll need to make sure they’re commanded to defend the island’s strategic cities at the right time, otherwise they might just bolt for the hills in the face of the overwhelming odds of Redland’s armour rolling along the northern coastal highway towards the west.
Rumours abound about a Blueland “Nothing Division”…. it might play a vital role later on in the campaign, should said rumours prove true.Winning conditions While the UN has mostly kept to a spectator role during the conflict so far, it seems now to have bowed to the pressure of the neighbouring countries to put a stop on the conflict. Members of the UN are also concerned about the fate of their important naval base at Souda. UN peacekeeping forces are expected on the island around midnight on day three of the campaign, and whoever holds on to Heraklion city by that time is bound to have an upper hand in the upcoming negotiations.
Redland Occupy Heraklion city by 23:59:59 on campaign day 3
Blueland Successfully defend Heraklion city until 23:59:59 on campaign day 3. It does not matter if city ownership changes sides a few times during the campaign, but you need to ensure the city’s ours by that time.If the aggressors hold Heraklion city then they have a strong bargaining position and the island could potentially be split in two. If you can prevent this then the UN might take a different view.
Crete’s fate is in your hands……we’re all counting on you! Thanks & Credits- Ikaros Team for their wonderful theater… simply the best place to fly a beautiful plane like the F-16!

Disclaimer While we’ve made every effort to ensure this mini campaign works as advertised and countless CPU cycles were put to good use running it on 16x time acceleration in 2d and also in many co-op 3d missions, we’re making no guarantees of any kind of its being fit for use on your setup.
Consider the light(er) side: If it breaks, you get to keep both parts.
