"Kritiki Elpida" (Hope for Crete) Mini Campaign
-
Hi All
I’m very pleased to say that the Ikaros development team have given us permission to post a new campaign for this theatre. We’ll be making it available very soon. It’s been tried and tested privately and everyone involved has been very pleased with it.
In a nutshell there’s been a huge invasion of eastern Crete by hostile forces, which you need to try to resist. It’s a surprise attack so you’re hugely outnumbered on the ground and in the air. You have three days to prevent the invaders from capturing and holding Heraklion city, the historical and administrative capital of Crete. In order to do this you will need to take personal control of both your air and ground resources.
At the end of day three the United Nations observers arrive and a cease-fire is declared. If the aggressors hold Heraklion city then they have a strong bargaining position and the island could potentially be split in two. If you can prevent this then the UN might take a different view.
Crete’s fate is in your hands……

I intend to make a 1980s style Campaign.
no AIM-120 , no advanced A2G weapon and datalink!
HAF’s F-16BLK30 PX1 versus TuAF’s F-16BLK30 in the fictional conflict between Greece and Turkey.or HAF as a part of NATO airpower fights with Soviet airpower to prevent Soviet naval force getting into Mediterranean Sea in the WW3.
So I need that camo of HAF’s Mirage F1 and A-7 Corsair II for making the campaign.
I also need HAF’s A-7 Corsair II with B61 to conduct the tactical nuclear attack !! never mind ! that’s a joke:D

Next Ikaros update will include the new toyz you are requesting.
Nukes where not available to A-7’s in Greek arsenal, only the F-104’s where certified to operate them. AFAIK same goes for THK side.

Thanks for new toys
I learned from WIKI that said" Greece participated in NATO “nuclear weapons sharing” until 2001, using A-7 Corsair IIs to deploy tactical B61 nuclear warheads from Araxos Air Base."
Is that true??

Not 100%.
Originally 2 QRA shelters in Tanagra AFB (LGTG) had the infrastructure security storage to host 2x nukes each, carried by F-104’s with Greek pilots (about 6 certified) and US ground crews. Later on in middle 90’s nukes moved from Tanagra to Araxos AFB (LGRX), in 2 similar shelters, plus 3 special hardened bunkers hosting some dozen nuke weapons. Plan was to be used by A-7’s as we received some 60; upgraded from USN back then, but never used/trained actually to this bird. This was the reason we installed there the latest 30 F-16M Block 52+ Advanced of PXIV program, since these are certified to carry them. Soon after however nukes were removed from Greece so this NATO role is not currently in national tasks.
There was an excellent document out there describing in detail many aspects of there, didn’t find it in a quick search though.
