Do DCAs on station respond? I was considering in my campaign putting long-term (2-3hr) DCA line behind my BARCAP line so that there is some depth and reserve. I considered putting the lesser F-4ESK back there with tanks (and possibly tanking points) to disrupt on help command.
I do that too: having older model fighter (F4E for instance) in the area. If they are engaging the MiG’s thay will keep them busy, even if it is not fair fight. I use a lot of F-18 sweeps during my campaign. Big 4 ship sweeps or 1 hour CAP’s on the FLOT. Their presence counts more than the amount of kills they get. And they do respond to a ‘help’ call in my experience. Keep the UHF on 12 (proximity) and you’ll know who is engaging the bandits.

In Falcon send your wingman home right after take off if there are fighters with AA12 otherwise you will lose him and a wasted airframe. I always go after the threat I see locking me up in my rwr first though if the fighters are escorting say a SU33 sead strike on my sams I engage them first to at least push them back. The best aircraft to engage the AA12 is the F15C which can outrun it close to 1o miles based upon altitude and airspeed of course. The Mig21 will not engage you until close and then you can hear him in your cockpit when he is close. The rwr is a wonderful tool. I often wait until the bogies (every fighter type except those that may be carrying AA12) enter dogfight close range and bang off amraams as fast as possible while dropping flares/chaff. Mig29A will not carry AA12 in BMS but the Mig29S and all versions of SU27 too. Allowing myself to get surrounded by red fighters is also not smart. The range of the 120 should be used in your advantage and at 32k I can down SU27 at 25 miles keeping my radar off until they get that close. All others may launch at me and I may get hit once in a while by AA10 but if I keep moving fast I can kick all their asses and be sipping a martini in the O Club while they are still smoldering on the ground. Nice visual I know.
True that! And LOL on the comments. The situation was one that I allowed myself to get into: too much heads down instead of maintaining good SA. So the ‘not smart’ part: yes I definitely agree. But the question is offcourse how to get out of it. There are amazing tactics here in the thread that are tested and true I reckon.

on the egress, better go home safely, chainsaw 12, then burn left, I guess

I have seen CAS with and without carrying air to ground weapons.
CAS without mud stores only works if you’re driving a Hawg with its 30mm cannon.
-
I have noticed in KTO Iron Fortress F16-40 squadron will load air to ground weapons for Interdiction mission yet for BAI they will default to air to air ordinance specifically 6-Aim9X. I change most loadouts anyway.

Talk about peppering the landscape!

I think that’s because the AI is stupid in some instances. It loads a local AA short range loadout for close support only. So, that might be just a bit of data base adjustments. Don’t know for sure. Another question for the devs I guess.

Yeah, I think this not an ‘AI’ problem. Pretty sure default load-out by mission type is a pre-set is some file somewhere.

That would be the data base AI (algorythum). So, it might be something adjustable.

Hi all,
Came across this RWR situation on the egress. Multiple Mig-29 spikeson my 1,3,4 & 5 o’clock.
I was with a 4-ship, each 2 AIM-120’s + 2 AIM-9x. All green and CAT1. But all AI…. How do you tackle this situation?Well! Thanks to everyone posting on this topic I survived the following situation. Happy happy joy joy
Getting jumped again well over the FLOT. AWACS did not warn us. Plenty of fuel and full armamants (6 AIM120’s each) Flight of 4.
Turned quickly to investigate which group was closest.
Then:
1 I turned my Two on a group
2. After turning into the second closest group with I launched my AIM120’s and after pitbull turned and burned into my safe 3 o’clock.
3. My three on clear my six
4. Music on, NOE, Requesting help from AWACS
5. Keeping tabs on my flight. After they called pitbull on their missiles I called a ‘rejoin’. And that’s that.Debrief showed we killed 7 air threats in 8 minutes. Miller time!:D
