Thanks for the reply first of all.
Well, the group on my nose was at 20nm. The rest were a little closer, resp. 18, 18 and 15 miles. But all nose hot. Basically 10-20 seconds before the merge (14nm).
We got jumped litteraly and AWACS did not paint the picture fully. We only got the close bandit in the ‘request picture’ call I put out on my bomb run.
I got off two AMRAAMS, then burn to the safe zone (my 9-12) and run but they did get my wingman. It was a very tricky situation and I could not use BVR maneuvering.
So I was wondering how other pilots deal with this situation.Looking forward to the replies!

I assume each spike are 2 Mig 29’s? The only time you have is to “maddog” 2 slammers and beam to your 9 “o clock” and burn! Get low and fast! Use terrain masking if your over the FLOT heading home. You can also sacrifice your wingman/element for those Migs at your initial 3 and 5 “o clock” by clearing them out (clear my six). Run home! You are in a very bad situation with low fuel for a fight. The Migs are so close that they may have already locked you up and fired. You will end up using most of your fuel to try to extend and escape. Hopefully, the 2 slammers will put the 12 “o clock” Migs in “defensive”. That way they are occupied enough you can beam around them in your low and fast burn that they will not engage you. Once in friendly territory, land immediately!

I am not sure. A time ago I gave it a try, but after that and a few minutes later I was shoot down, but AFAIR there was a added flight in the air.
I will give it a try with 2 extra 600lbs and will await what will happen… -
I am pretty noobish and have no tactical knowledge whatsoever but I really want to give my 2 cents on this subject.
Given the RWR picture from the original post, it being on egress and his relative low level on fuel I would’ve kept flying towards the 29 on his 12 o’clock until he was in Fox 3 range. Fire, beam him on your 2 o’clock and keep egressing.

Yeah I agree with that. Falcon is for aggressive tactics. If you get a missile launch then full afterburner dive then kill those Migs and to hell with playing it safe. attack attack attack

He was 20 miles and nose hot(?) …. someone in that flight should’ve had a missile in the air already. That should be well within parameters.
The others … 15 miles, nose hot and you’re passed the FLOT with 3000 pounds … you should be running home already (following that missile that should’ve already been fired).

In movies or in novel. In the real life there are risk level matrix. (one saved a/c can kill more Migs later than killing one just before taking an AA12 in the mouth.)

Running from 4 MiG’s when it’s you carrying 3 brain-dead AI and no gas isn’t necessarily ‘timidity’.

I count 6x MiG-29 nails, 2 front, 4 right. Shoot the front with both AMRAAM, command chainsaw on the second contact if you can find it and have time. Engage burner, pitch for 0.9M and crank left. Snip at husky. Bandits’ weapon envelopes will seriously shrink as you turn away. I’m sure fuel is a concern but being confetti is a bigger one. Based on your radar volume you’re at 24kft which is a nice place to be. If the 12oc contact is lower, consider rolling right over him as he evades.
Keep the chicks close, weapons hold, spread. If they turn to engage they’re toast. Keep climbing MAXAB at 0.9M until you’re free or below 1000lbs. 1000 should be plenty to dead stick onto an emergency recovery field if needed.
The contacts trailing the 12oc MiG are possibly no threat or friendly especially if forward is cowboy territory. If you’re lucky they’re friendly and just living and buying time will drag the MiGs into your ally’s sights.

Not only that, but in bms, your jet inventory is about to get very low quickly. 4 jets gone means less sorties for you in the future. Going out with guns “blazing” might be fun, but if your in a camp, you soon will have much fewer flights.

In Falcon send your wingman home right after take off if there are fighters with AA12 otherwise you will lose him and a wasted airframe. I always go after the threat I see locking me up in my rwr first though if the fighters are escorting say a SU33 sead strike on my sams I engage them first to at least push them back. The best aircraft to engage the AA12 is the F15C which can outrun it close to 1o miles based upon altitude and airspeed of course. The Mig21 will not engage you until close and then you can hear him in your cockpit when he is close. The rwr is a wonderful tool. I often wait until the bogies (every fighter type except those that may be carrying AA12) enter dogfight close range and bang off amraams as fast as possible while dropping flares/chaff. Mig29A will not carry AA12 in BMS but the Mig29S and all versions of SU27 too. Allowing myself to get surrounded by red fighters is also not smart. The range of the 120 should be used in your advantage and at 32k I can down SU27 at 25 miles keeping my radar off until they get that close. All others may launch at me and I may get hit once in a while by AA10 but if I keep moving fast I can kick all their asses and be sipping a martini in the O Club while they are still smoldering on the ground. Nice visual I know.

It works. But only when there are Sweep or Escort flights in the general area. They’ve saved me a couple of times.

Do DCAs on station respond? I was considering in my campaign putting long-term (2-3hr) DCA line behind my BARCAP line so that there is some depth and reserve. I considered putting the lesser F-4ESK back there with tanks (and possibly tanking points) to disrupt on help command.

I do not think so. When “on station” DCA have an objective to protect.

What’s the difference in objective between DCA and TARCAP? The descriptions on the Falcon 4.0 manual are very similar.
