I got into more series Flight Sims about have a year ago, prior to that I had been playing arcade games like Battlefield 2 and the sorts. Anyways, I’ve pretty much always used a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, but now I feel like it’s time for an upgrade. So I was wondering if I should go for the CH Pro Throttle and Fighterstick (with the pedals) or the X-55 Rhino is any good (I’d get some Saitek Pedals too). I’ve heard that the Rhino seems to be of poor build quality but I’m drawn to it since it’s modeled off of the Super Hornet’s HOTAS system. On the other hand I hear that the CH products are very precise but that they’re also light weight and take some time to get used to. Should I play it safe with the CH stuff or is it possible that Rhino will get some of the bugs ironed out along with some better quality control?

I currently own the X-55 Rhino. If you have an AMD processor with 2.0 USB ports, you may need to also get an external powered USB port (not expensive at all) to avoid the ghosting issue some have experienced…this is what I had to do. If you are using 3.0 USB ports, you may have no problems at all.

My opinion of the HOTAS…love it. Very precise…especially during air refueling. By the way, this HOTAS has a twist (on the joystick) feature for rudders…therefore no need to buy rudder pedals. One other thing, I love the price.

I have an intel processor, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I kind of want pedals just for the sake of immersion though. I will look into the Rhino some more, and maybe I will sacrifice on getting pedals. I just want to make sure that the stick is actually good. Are there any problems with the Rhino besides the ghosting?

The joystick may be a little sticky right out of the box (for my taste)…but can be resolved with a little grease. Other than that, HOTAS is rock solid in my opinion.
