Whats the Best Hornet?
-
Well Mower and this goes for all.
One doesn’t actually know what the other is actually doing.
Mo doesn’t know what BMS is actually doing or how it works. On the other hand users ask and demand things from BMS whith an attitude of talking or requesting from a company.
None is wrong none is fault.
BMS as a company does sets a Target and goes that way.
There difference is a company has money and arranges to get the resources to fulfill those targets. BMS on the other hand has no money thus no such access on such resources. Also with fear of having lose of control over the code the dev team must be selected very strictly and with criteria that some time we might not be able to understand.
Beta team of BMS is big and as rumored or speculated some xxx people. Working under the radar wasting their free time for the greater cause.
Maybe it’s not that strict as a company would or as if BMS would like it to be but for xx years now it’s working fine.
DCS obviously had issues, serious issues unless they wouldn’t start with those open alpha and pre releases.Pushing things is what we always do, we the users. We are selfish egger beasts like kids wanting more and we are never satisfied.
This is super good.
Why it’s good?
Cause we see great value and potential in BMS. Some times we get stack on our needs and it goes to personal and this hurts feelings. You (BMS) do things in a manner we think everything is easy and go, oh come on u didn’t do this. Dcs (or others) did it we want it also.
So let’s all keep the ball down and control our passion to a level that doesn’t irritate the other end.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

What is the best F-18 simulator? VRS SUPER BUG; DCS F-18, BMS F-18? VRS SUPER BUG IMHO.
What can be the most beautiful F-18 simulator? VRS SUPER BUG; DCS F-18? DCS F-18 IMHO.
What is the air combat simulator? There is only one alternative, BMS. The rest does not even consider competition.
No more, no less.

Better or worse…
As a prospective buyer, im just curious what do you do with hornet in dcs once you learn the systems and landing-take off? If ed arent planning to change the engine, the maps will stay small and the number of objects limited, not to mention any dynamic campaign or war simulation. So what do you do with a possibly amazing (in future) dcs hornet?
Not being sarcastic, genuine interest. -
Maps aren’t small, 3 exist now with more on the way.
Nevada map is huge, with many airfields. PG quite large as well.
Grafix are excellent, much better at suspending disbelief.
What do you do? Go see on you tube.
Surely there is an argument to be made by some, depending on situation, for moving from BmS to the dcs Bug.
Ask the 1st Vfw for instance.
keep in mind for me that I have always loved the Hornet but only liked the Viper.
So you must take my obnoxious opines in that context.

Maps aren’t small,
Are you kidding Mower!?
Let me remind you that Korea is 550 x 550NM … and most BMS users think it is already too small. Ok … now:
- Georgia: about 300 x 400Nm
- Nevada : a training environment of 200 x 200Nm , one big city, almost 100% of sand and you won’t have naval ops on Nevada.
- Straight Of Hormuz : approx 210 x 210Nm … 50% sand, 50% water … thee cities.
… no need to talk about Normandy : (140 x 190Nm) …
DCS F-18 is currently very nice for Dog-Fighters who likes the blue sky and for whom an AIM-9 and a cannon is enough.

I’m out.
I have nothing to gain by debating.

Wow 200x200 is REALLY small… I wonder why they did it that small, heightmap don’t cut it (I don’t think their terrain goes much higher res than say 60/90 meters), and it must be related to the scenery, as different theaters have different size… Is it the OSM data size? Although I don’t think it should be that large if held in proper binary format… Interesting.

With time everything comes.
Damn, I wonder why the dcs team hasn’t make any f-16 yet, Their planes collection is just as wide as the planes in BMS, I’d love a superhq pit a 4k pictures that dcs always bring
-
I think that it is clear that people that don’t share the same approach of a combat simulator can not understand each other.

Answer to that question is obvious
The smaller you do the quicker you go to market
The smaller you do the more money you can do given a limited earth size

I REALLY didn’t thought about that aspect
That’s being damn greedy…

… Yet it requires a minimum of 16Go RAM (recommended is 32Go).

WTF??? For what??? Even if they hold 30m resolution heightmap data (Which I doubt they do, according to the terrain resolution in their vids), still for a 200x200 NM that will be less than 1GB. Where goes another 10-15GB ? Art textures are mostly loaded to GPU VRAM and don’t duplicate in RAM unless you really have a small memory card (Which is probably not the case for most DCS flyers).
-
Not only terrain, but every objects and of course aircrafts has high resolution textures. It looks good, but has a real cost. High poly 3D models has certainly also a cost here.

even with 200x200Nm, that makes a pretty long range sidewinder?
and i’m not even talking about the canon -
@Red:
…. and i’m not even talking about the canon
I don’t think we should be talking about your cannon Red Dog. Some of the other vPilots may begin to feel …. inadequate.

and i’m not even talking about the canonYep … way enough for AIM-9 indeed … And way enought for my taste with the UH-1 and the Gazelle. For helicopters those maps are quite alright.
-
I saw a DCS video of the devs and looked like the objects on the terrain were being dragged and dropped onto it one at a time which if so must take forever. (wonder if that is a reason for the smaller Maps)
Once you have spent a few years modding terrains no terrain looks realistic anymore……best to stay in the pit and squint your eyes.

Thank you Mower, this was an incredibly informative and polite answer. I wish more people were so articulate and convincing, able to explain, selflessly, in their own words the great many pleasures of this wonderful game. After all, what is a gamer without such passion?
